Dear Editor,
Oct. 16-22 is the 11th annual celebration of National Friends of Libraries Week, making it a good time to publicly thank the Friends of the Llano Library, who contribute so much of their time and expertise to significantly enhance the library’s services. Your Friends group have provided financial assistance to cover the costs of activities and programs for children, teens and adults and assisted with supporting continuing education opportunities for the staff.
I know that the Lla ...
Dear Editor,
On Sept. 20 we had a wonderful Chamber of Commerce mixer at the Llano Recycling Opportunities.
We appreciate Briley, Kim and Angela of the Llano Chamber of Commerce and all Llano citizens present for showing their commitment to the LRO and recycling. The Llano Special Opportunity Center is especially proud of the LRO workforce who on a daily basis process the recyclables and get the job done.
We are also proud of all individuals that attend and work at the Main Street Center.
Dear Editor,
I grew up in Llano County and have been playing the Llano Golf Course for over 60 years. I have played all over the world and the Llano Golf Course is the best deal going. It is beautiful, relaxing and in the best condition it has ever been. You don’t have to be a real golfer - just go out and enjoy.
A special thanks to Casey Landers, Brian Smith and Larry Clanton for the many hours they put in making the course perfect.
Dear Editor,
The Llano commissioners court selected a three person committee made up of Judge Mary Cunningham, Precinct 1 Commissioner Peter Jones and former library board member Pam Fowler. I never heard of this board member position.
Aside of this fact, we see some politics entering the fray. Seems two members of the committee go to the same church as Jackie Cundieff and her husband is the pastor there.
Dear Editor,
I attended the Gillespie County CTEC District meeting on June 16, 2016 and was disappointed by the lack of response from CEO Bob Loth to issues raised by a candidate for the board. Heinrich Boenig called for more accountability and transparency in the Co-op.
He stated that public corporations and some Coops (unlike our Coop) publish in their annual report the salaries of their senior executives and board directors.
He asked for open board meetings.
Dear Editor,
Regarding last week’s article (submitted) by Llano County Agent Mr. Jamie Osbourn, “U.S. Beef Exports Continue to Climb,” this is not a blast at our county agent, he knows there is more to the cattle story than what (was) covered in the article.
Beef exports has been a hot button topic for me, while touted as the saving grace by the national cattle association.
Dear Editor,
The Llano News article “Setting the record straight” on the HISTORY page, dated August 17, 2016 stated,”People incorrectly think Llano County was created out of Gillespie County, but in reality, it was attached to Bexar County until officially created February 1, 1856.”
The history of Bexar District and the creation of Gillespie, Llano and Mason County is a little complex, but the statement that people “incorrectly” think that Llano County was created out of Gillespie C ...
Dear Editor,
In the coming week the Llano County Commissioners are going to vote on a new Library System Director. There is only one person in the fray and that is Tommi Myers. She has put 17 years into this system, which she knows inside and out. It would take a book to list all the programs she has added to the library.
If the object is to find a person with a vast amount of experience and the ability to get along with people, the choice is clear: Tommi Myers.
I urge you to contact your commi ...
Dear Editor,
As a person disabled by TBI, congenitally blind in one eye, and a hole in the retina of the other eye, and living alone, it is difficult to find pride in the fact that I can no longer take care of myself adequately, do many of the tasks I used to do with ease, get the rehab support needed to become productive and for more than four months have been left without the in home help twelve hours a week which enables me to live independently per the Disability Civil Rights expressed in t ...
Dear Editor,
I would like to apologize for erroneously referring to a living person, Diane Gage, as deceased. I am over joyed to learn that I was mistaken.
Since writing that letter, I have learned of support for the LRO from several individuals and organizations and feel much more optimistic about securing the new baler machine in a shorter time.
