As we begin a new budget year, which began Oct. 1, I want to reflect on the past three years of my administration and specifically on this past month, which was National Preparedness Month.
With uncanny timing, Texas, Louisiana, Florida and the Caribbean experienced a devastating month of natural disasters. These catastrophes make us more aware than ever of the importance of preparedness and gratitude to our first responders.
While Llano County was not negatively affected by these storms, ...
Dear Editor,
There are a lot of strong feelings about honoring our American flag, and rightly so. I propose that only our United States flag along with our great Texas flag flying proudly underneath is allowed on the flagpole next to the courthouse in Llano.
We are all proud to be American citizens and citizens of the great state of Texas.
Dear Editor,
FOUR COMPLEX QUESTIONS – ONE SIMPLE ANSWER
1) When is the time to relinquish one’s heritage and culture for the sake of another?
2) When is the appropriate time to no longer honor your fallen in public?
3) When is the time to forget your ancestral past and its heroes?
4) When should you allow – at any time – the removal or destruction of symbols and monuments pertaining to a regional heritage or culture just to replace them with the symbols and monuments of anot ...
Dear Editor,
We appreciate you, Mr. John Verser, for the great news article last week concerning the Llano Recycling Opportunities. For 26 years in operation the board of directors for the Llano County Special Opportunity Center appreciates all of the workers who are the recycling heroes and for the job which they perform each day.
Dear Editor,
Once again I am proud to pick up the gauntlet placed before me and accept yet another challenge from the willfully ignorant.
In my last article in regard to the Confederate Battle Flag, I saw fit to list certain background information in support of my assertions on the topic. For that reason, “many points” had to be brought to the forefront as a basis for my argument(s).
Dear Editor,
In response to Mr. Russell’s (first) letter regarding keeping the Confederate Flag and Confederate statues displayed in public places: He certainly has a right to express his opinion. However, is it not possible to express one’s opinion without name-calling?
My great great grandfather was a colonel in the Civil War.
Dear Editor,
This letter is in response to Carl A. Russell’s letter to keep the Confederate battle flag up. First allow me to say, Mr. Russell’s letter was so long with so many points that it was difficult to keep up; but, since I am apparently not one of those “educated-beyond-their-intelligence” people I will respond as best as I can.
Yes, the Confederate flag is well known but, “like it or not” it is known for hate, racism, slavery and those who believe in white supremacy.

Dear Editor,
I am frequently hearing the POTUS speak about the “bad, biased, and fake media” reporting that is taking place “out there” (where ever out there is) and to be honest I am becoming increasingly weary and annoyed at hearing that from him.
It is my personal opinion that the United States press in as honest, respectable, and unbiased as it possibly can be today; and, I thank you for keeping your fellow Americans as current and informed as is possible and maybe most import ...
Dear Editor,
In response to an ongoing left-wing conspiracy to destroy this great nation with the manipulation of the uneducated by the educated-beyond-their-intelligence, I say, “Raise the Confederate Battle Flag”; do not lower it even one inch!
The Confederate Battle Flag is known world-wide, not for its association with racism, not for its association with hate, and not for its association with religious intolerance; the Confederate Battle Flag is a symbol of conviction, dedication ...
Dear Editor,
This is in regard to Americans not having the right to know where our beef comes from, as in born, raised, processed and labeled as such. At present any imported beef that is repackaged in the U.S. can carry a label of “Product of USA.” The Central American Nations that can ship fresh beef to the U.S.
