Live entertainment in two locations on Saturday, and for five hours on Sunday, vendors on the square and at Grenwelge Park, Red Top Jail Tours, a cobbler contest and gun fights, the Llano Wild West Weekend was set. Visitors from all over the country came to Llano to relive the old west, and vendors as far away as Colorado.

Pope is taking the ‘Forrest Gump’ run across the country
Robert Pope isn’t on your ordinary cross-country journey. The Liverpool, England, native and champion marathoner is following the route the fictional character and movie namesake Forrest Gump took from Mobile, Ala., to the Pacific Ocean in California in his cross-country run. Pope began the journey last month and made his way through Llano on Thursday. As Pope came into town along Hwy.
A packed crowd saw the best of the first-ever PRCA Xtreme Bulls competition held in Llano on Saturday night, as part of Wild West Weekend. The John L Kuykendall Arena was cut in half Saturday night for the event. What has been a PRCA Rodeo the past two years was changed midstream to the bull riding, and the move was brilliant as far as attendance was concerned.
Boys State and Girls State attendees from Llano High School and Faith Academy, who were each sponsored by the Kingsland American Legion, were honored Saturday with an awards ceremony. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and the “Pink Out” pep rally at Llano Junior High was Thursday, Oct. 6. The students at the Junior High decided to raise a little money by selling T-shirts and chances to “pie” a teacher in the face at the pep rally. They set a goal of $200 and then asked several businesses in town contribute matching funds.
Rowell has been enchanted by rocks since his youth
Most kids love to collect rocks when they’re young. Some of them, like Frank Rowell, never outgrow that fascination. Rowell, the owner and operator of the Enchanted Rocks & Jewelry shop in Llano, said he has always loved rocks and that’s why he stopped being a machinist in his early twenties and went into the jewelry business. Originally from New Hampshire, Rowell spent time in New Mexico and Colorado as a rock hound and eventually found his way to Llano in 2001 with his wife Patricia F ...
This weekend is time to welcome the Wild West to Llano. With locations scattered all over Llano, there is something for just about everyone. Vendors will start setting up on Friday evening around the square, along Oatman Street and at Grenwelge Park. There will be live entertainment on the Gazebo located at the Llano County Courthouse, and also at Grenwelge Park from 10 a.m.
