Well the weather outside is frightful, staying in is so delightful. And it snowed in Llano on New Year’s Eve. A blast of frigid air blew in on Sunday causing many to celebrate the beginning of 2018 in the comfort of their own homes. For those that chose to go out, they were greeted with a dusting of snow around 9 p.m.

A LOOK BACK AT 2017
It is hard to believe but 2017 is nearly history, and it was one for the history books in Llano, Texas. In 2017, Llano elected its first woman to be mayor, a historic bond issue repairing all the roads in the city limit was passed, as well as a bond allowing liquor by the drink in bars and restaurants.
Turmoil with the Llano Police Department was the top story locally in 2017. LPD Officer Grant Harden was indicted by a Llano County Grand Jury in December on six counts - three felony and three misdemeanor. He was indicted on two counts of tampering with evidence and one count of tampering with a governmental record, said District Attorney Sonny McAfee earlier this month.
The Llano County Republican Party chairman, precinct chairs, candidates running for office in 2018 election and supporters gathered at the Kingsland Library on Dec. 21 for the ballot position drawing. Candidates or a designated persons drew for position based on high card. The 2018 Llano County Primary will be held on March 6 with early voting beginning Feb.
Llano County Democrats met in Llano to celebrate the holiday season as well as draw for places for their candidates on the March primary ballot. Paula D’Orsogna drew the places on the primary ballot. The Democrats do not have any candidates for county-wide offices, but have other candidates on the ballot.
Looking back at 2017 in photos
Jim and Phyliss Norfleet were part of the ugly sweater contest Saturday night at Joe’s Bar and Grill.
It began back in October, the first and third Wednesdays each month. The nights were hot and sticky, and inside the arena, families were gathered under the big fans trying to stay cool. Brought to Llano by Se` Vette Early, the Challenge of Champions Barrel Race would see as many as 70 racers on these hot Wednesday evenings, and the times were getting faster with each race.
