JCISD will celebrate Homecoming 2021 on Friday, Sept. 10 with the varsity Eagles hosting Geneva Christian School in football at 7:30 p.m.; the Lady Eagle Volleyball schedule currently shows an opening on that date. Festivities surrounding homecoming were somewhat curtailed in 2020 due to COVID-19, but school officials hope to resume a week of full-scale celebration to include the community pep rally and parade of the decades.
The Johnson City Lady Eagles All-Star 14U team won four games this past weekend without a loss to win the Regional Championship in New Braunfels and qualify for the 2021 Pony 14U World Series. The Lady Eagles will face the top teams in the South Zone at the Youngsville Sports Complex in Youngsville, Louisiana July 14-18.

The Johnson City chapter of the Lions Club International awarded scholarships to two graduating seniors from the LBJHS Class of 2021 based on their community service while enrolled at LBJHS. Joshua Vasquez received a $1,500 award for dedicating 311.5 hours of time outside of school activities volunteering in various capacities. Millie Pletcher received a $1,000 scholarship for her 292.75 hours of service.
Athletic Director David T Sine and Girls’ Athletic Coordinator Heather Wilson have announced the schedule for summer programs to help athletes build for the 2021-22 year of competition. Kicking off the summer season on Monday was the Strength & Speed Clinic for incoming 7th-12th graders. The Clinic runs Monday through Thursday until July 22nd with no workouts scheduled July 5th-8th.
Top 14-and-under softball players from Johnson City and Burnet ran the table at two warm-up tournaments as they prep for a run at the Pony World Series of Softball in mid-July. Junior Cade Boyer and Sophomore Ryan Shipley captured superlative honors from District 29-2A coaches for their performance in the 2021 Baseball season. Boyer punished opposing pitchers with a .654 batting average and .703 on-base percentage to be named Co-Offensive MVP with Jackson Davis of Harper. Boyer collected 8 singles, 4 doubles, 2 triples and 3 homeruns with 18 RBIs and no strikeouts.
Seniors Mason Roberts and Parker Hughes capped their high school athletic careers with accolades for their academic performance while competing at the Varsity level. Roberts, whose events included the Long Jump, High Jump, 4x100 Meter Relay and 4x400 Meter Relay, was selected for 1st Team Academic All-State Track honors. He represented JC at the Regional Track Meet running a leg of the 4x100 Meter Relay team.
