Amid an uptick in confirmed positive cases of COVID in the LBJ High School population administrators closed the campus last week and placed all students in remote instruction. All sports contests were put on hold and according to District 29-2A procedures only Varsity contests were rescheduled. The Varsity Eagles made the most of their missed opportunity with a 50-29 drubbing of the Junction Eagles Monday night.
Maura Ibanez, a junior at LBJ High School, will be one of 17 students with work featured in the Clingman Education Gallery at the Briscoe Western Art Museum. Ibanez’s work, On the Chase, was recognized as Best in Class in the the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Western Art Competition.
LBJ Middle School 7th Grader Briley Sralla took the winners stand with her teammates last weekend to accept the Junior National Air Rifle Championship trophy in Griffin, Georgia. Sralla, who thinks back fondly on the pink .22 Santa brought when she was five years old, began shooting competitively when she was eight.
The Varsity Eagles Basketball team opened the second round of District 29-2A play with a 57-42 win at Center Point Friday night. The Eagles (7-7; 4-3) were led by Mason Roberts who scored nine of his 14 points in the first half to put the Eagles on top by a slim 23-22 margin at the break.
Johnson City, TX – Results of the 2021 Blanco County Youth Exhibit Hall event were released recently, with 46 4-H, FFA & FCCLA members exhibiting 307 entries.

The Eagle Junior Varsity team was the lone winner on Friday night as the Harper Longhorns came to town for District 29-2A basketball. The JV Eagles stretched their district record to xx wins without a loss behind a balanced scoring attack that included seven points each by Ryan Alvis and Ryan Shipley, six points from Owen Portie and XX Rogers and five points from xx Lopez.
The 8th Grade Lady Eagles avenged an earlier loss to Harper outplaying the host Lady Longhorns for the 32-18 victory. Seven players combined for double figure scoring in the first and third quarters, led by Jackie Early with 8. Maddie Hacker added 6 points, Kathryn Johnson 6, Bo Crownover 4 and Madison Marshall 4.
Board President Shelly Wenmohs called the regular meeting of the JCISD Board to order on January 11, 2021 at 6:03 p.m. in the LBJ Elementary Cafeteria. A quorum was established with six members present. There were no public comments.
January is School Board Appreciation month, and the Board was recognized and honored for their service.
