AUSTIN — Gov. Greg Abbott and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick released statements following a deadly shooting on Dec. 29 at West Freeway Church of Christ in White Settlement, a city of 16,000 people on the west side of Fort Worth. Two church members were killed in the shooting, which occurred during Sunday services.

Although the Lady Eagles emerged from the Comfort Invitational Varsity Tournament last weekend without a win, Coach Corine Baker saw her young team improve offensively and gain valuable experience. In losses to Pearsall (26-40), Clark (20-52) and Harper (24-62) in pool play and Young Women's Leadership Academy of San Antonio ISD (26-39) in bracket play Senior Kristine Henriquez led the Lady Eagles in scoring with her best performance- an 11 point effort against Pearsall.
The Christmas frenzy is over, and the Gracious Mistress of the Parsonage and Yours Truly are sitting back surveying our Christmas plunder. Only a few days ago, the house was ablaze with Christmas lights, and the rafters were echoing with Christmas delight. Now, much to my delight, quietness is tiptoeing through our house. In surveying my Christmas plunder, several thoughts, like sugarplums, are dancing in my head.

AUSTIN — After the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit declared the individual mandate in “Obamacare” unconstitutional on Dec. 18, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton expressed his agreement. “The Fifth Circuit’s holding is clear: the federal government cannot order private citizens to purchase subpar insurance products that they don’t want,” Paxton said.
