Mark Lesly Smith, PhD, resident artist of the Texas Arthouse gallery in Johnson City, has announced his masterwork, The Hope Suite, which is comprised of 44 individual works, will now be a part of the permanent collection at Obama Presidential Center Museum. Smith created The Hope Suite in Austin and in Indianapolis during 2008-2014.
By Emily Hilley-Sierzchula  Blanco County has administered every last drop of the COVID-19 vaccine doses that were delivered to the county earlier this month, and now officials are awaiting the next shipment as cases continue to climb. The county received a shipment of 300 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine three weeks ago and inoculations of first responders immediately commenced on Jan.
By Rachel Lumpee The Blanco County Commissioners Court was called to order at 9 a.m. by Judge Brett Bray. The four commissioners: Tommy Weir, Emil Uecker, Chris Liesmann, and Paul Granberg, were present. There were no public comments at this time. The commissioners approved the minutes of the previous meeting. There were four line item transfers.
Mayor Rhonda Stell distributed COVID-19 care packages to local businesses over the past week. The packages included hand sanitizer, sanitizing wipes and signage for mask reminders. The packages were purchased by the City of Johnson City using COVID Relief funding at Johnson City Health Mart pharmacy.
Three city government positions and three school board seats are open for election in Johnson City, which is programmed for May 1, 2021. The terms of office for the Mayor and two Councilperson positions will expire. The Mayor and Council are selected Citywide by Johnson City residents registered to vote. No one had the Monday blues at the Henry House in Blanco earlier this week when residents and staff members who wanted the COVID-19 vaccine were able to receive it, thanks to the county’s EMS service. The North Blanco County ESD-1 held a regular meeting via Zoom videoconferencing on Monday evening. President David O’Bannon called the meeting to order at 7 p.m., and a quorum was established. Secretary-Treasurer Kay Odiorne motioned for approval of the minutes from the December 14, 2020 regular meeting and Commissioner Kirk McElhinney seconded; this motion carried 5-0.
The City Council held a regular meeting on January 12, 2021 at City Hall. Mayor Rhonda Stell called the meeting to order at 6 p.m. Pastor Steve Sanchez gave the Invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited. There were no public comments. At 6:02 p.m. Council adjourned into a Closed Session and resumed Open Session at 7:04 p.m.
