Sheriff Don Jackson proudly pins the badge on the newest Blanco County Deputy Sheriff Jorge Zagada on Monday. Deputy Zagada was sworn in by Judge Bray to serve his hometown in this newly promoted position. Working in the county jail after graduating from LBJHS Class of 2017, Zagada completed academy training for law enforcement in tandem.
Staff vaccination clinic planned for March 22
JCISD Board of Trustees held a regular meeting on March 8, 2021, in the LBJ High School Commons, and President Shelly Wenmohs called the meeting to order at 6 p.m. All trustees were present. Property owners may qualify for a new tax exemption
In an area declared a disaster area by the Governor, Tax Code Section 11.35 allows a qualified property that is at least 15 percent damaged by a disaster to receive a temporary exemption of a portion of the appraised value of the property. A property owner must apply for the temporary exemption and the deadline for application is 105 days after the governor declares a disaster area.
Tuesday was Texas Independence Day, and Saturday will mark the anniversary of the fall of the Alamo. Texas is a land with a wealth of history dating back as far prehistoric times. Once great dinosaurs roamed the land. At times it was covered with shallow seas. While taking a walk through the Hill Country, one can find sea shell fossils laying in abundance on the caliche ground.
In true Johnson City fashion, the community would like to come together and assist its neighbors with storm debris clean-up. The City of Johnson City is spearheading an organized event to bring these volunteers to those who need the help. This Saturday, March 6, will be the first official Winter Storm clean-up. Volunteers are asked to meet at City Hall at 9 a.m.

Getting the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine is just as important as having the first dose, according to James Partin, M.D., Internal Medicine, Chief Medical Officer for Hill Country Memorial. That’s because the immunity nearly doubles after receiving both doses. “With the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine, you probably have at best 50% immunity from the first dose by the second week after getting it,” Partin explained.
