Hill Country Memorial has issued a call for former patients and their family members to serve on its Patient & Family Advisory Council. “We are looking for people who have ideas on how we can improve to better serve patients and families,” said Mandy Schmidt, HCM social worker, case manager and council leader.
Previously, I wrote about our native evergreen shrubs. Today, I will discuss native deciduous shrubs that are usually, but not exclusively, found in shady, wet areas in canyons and along creeks. False Indigo, or Amorpha (Amorpha fruticosa) is a medium-sized shrub with compound leaves with oval leaflets about one-inch long. It puts up flower spikes in the spring that can be two to four inches long and vary from dark blue to purple, resembling a bottle brush with yellow stamens.

Each year all seven Chartered Coonhound Breed Associations selects one youth to receive the United Kennel Club Coonhound Bloodlines Horizon Award. The seven young people who are chosen are traditionally featured in each Youth issue of the Coonhounds Bloodlines. The Blanco Canoe Race, hosted by the Blanco Boy Scout Troop #497, brought 120 paddlers representing 14 Boy Scout troops from the central Texas region. Troops from Austin, Bastrop, Burnet, Hutto, Marble Falls, Pflugerville, San Marcos and Taylor joined the Blanco troop to camp Friday night, April 27 at Klepac Greenhouses by the Blanco River. Race heats started promptly at 9 a.m.
4/3 arrested a 24-year-old Blanco man after a month’s long investigation that began with a suicide in December. During the investigation, evidence was obtained that indicated that the suspect had agreed to provide drugs to the victim prior to his death. The autopsy report confirmed that the same type of drug was in the victims bloodstream at the time of his death.
