Ada Cooley, who turns 100 years old next week on March 28, has lived a life of taking care of others, community service and working alongside family in a variety of businesses. She’s known sorrow but also enjoyed work, her yard and garden, and played more than a few games along the way.
The centenarian will celebrate her birthday with a party hosted by family, with five generations gathering in Blanco.
My submariner daughter emailed me recently, and among all of the exciting updates (including the fact that she achieved the submarine qualification she was working toward), she mentioned how she has been struggling with “just not feeling myself.” She told me about sleeping 2.5 hours within the last 24. Being in close quarters in a submarine underway means no sunlight, no fresh air and limited opportunity for exercise.
Chris Harbach is a talented song writer with a love for Blanco. She writes about things she knows and experiences from her life. She feels that when she keeps her songs truthful so that each one will find its own finish. Her tunes tell stories that people will enjoy.
When asked about the lyrics of her new song, “Bury Me in Blanco,” Chris Harbach is quick to say she has a love for the beauty, peacefulness and slower small-town pace where everybody knows everyone that is uniquely Blanco.
I am an affected person. This is TCEQ’s language. If there is nothing wrong with discharging treated sewage into the Blanco River, why are those who live/drink/swim within one mile of the treatment plant’s discharge point called effected by the agency that issues the permit? There must be a reason.
Paxton Joins Effort Against Climate Change Lawsuit
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton on Oct. 5 announced he had joined an Indiana-led coalition of 11 state attorneys general in a friend-of-the-court brief seeking dismissal of a climate-change lawsuit against the energy industry.
King County, Washington, filed the lawsuit naming the oil companies BP, Chevron, Exxon Mobil, Royal Dutch and ConocoPhillips as defendants.
The Blanco County Appraisal District mailed out approximately 19,000 property tax statements for the 2018 tax year on Monday, Oct. 1. The Blanco County Appraisal District is responsible for mailing out tax statements for eight taxing entities, with a total collection estimate of $30,071,258.

The League of Women Voters of the Hill Country is conducting a Candidate Forum at 6 to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 16. The two candidates for Texas House District 45 are participating in the forum at the Blanco Library in the Large Conference Room at 1118 Main St./U.S. Hwy. 281 in Blanco.

All three school campuses will have a security resource on patrol this fall. The new School Resource Officer (SRO), Officer Steve Harris, began work at the Blanco Independent School District the first week of October. Off. Harris serves jointly as an officer of the Blanco Police department and BISD. The position is being funded by the BISD CoAPT grant, with additional funding being applied for in 2019.
