Results of the 2019-2020 Blanco County 4-H awards were released recently with winners from all over the county. The Blanco Good Samaritan Center’s thrift store will be open Thursdays starting Oct. 1. Hours will be noon to 6 p.m., each Thursday, while donations of household items will be accepted from noon to 5 p.m. that day. Hand sanitizer use will be required prior to entering the store. Masks, covering the nose and mouth, will be required to be worn at all times in the store for those age 5 and up. Only limited numbers of customers will be allowed in store to encourage social distancing.

On Saturday night, Blanco was treated to an extraordinary concert under the stars in the Uptown Blanco Courtyard by the quintet Windsync. This performance kicks off Blanco Performing Arts’ Silver Linings season for 2020-21. The experience was equally appreciated by the audience who have been somewhat cooped up by the COVID pandemic and this amazing group of musicians who have also been restricted by COVID-19 and unable to perform in public since Feb.
The Blanco Buggy Barn was the setting for Blanco Young Life’s 2020 Banquet, and the rain and COVID-19 pandemic did not dampen the enthusiasm. A group of about 80 guests enjoyed a fun evening that included fellowship, a meal and engaging speakers who shared the purpose of Young Life. Social distancing was observed in accordance with local COVID-19 guidelines, and the large, spacious area was the ideal venue.

Dr. Craig Manifold, who was appointed the local health authority for Blanco County last March once the COVID-19 pandemic hit, died unexpectedly. Manifold served as an assistant professor in the Department of Emergency Health Sciences at the School of Health Professions at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.
The annual homecoming parade and pep rally for Blanco High School has been canceled this year due to COVID-19 concerns. BHS Principal Patrick Hinson announced the decision Monday. “Due to COVID regulations, we have decided to cancel the Homecoming Parade and Pep Rally which would normally take place on the Wednesday of Homecoming Week,” he wrote in an email to parents, which was also posted on the BISD Facebook page.
