The First Baptist Church of Blanco hosted a community Light Night Halloween night. More than 1,000 people attended the free event that featured a costume contest (pictured below, games, face painting, a hayride and play on inflatables. Several churches and organizations contributed to the success of the evening including Blanco United Methodist Church, Trinity Lutheran Church, The Ark, New Hope Lutheran Church, Young Life as well as the Blanco EMS and the Blanco Volunteer Fire Department.
Having a son who served as a Marine greatly helps Hope Ware to provide support for other veterans.
Ware, the veteran support coordinator for Blanco County through Hill Country MHDD (Mental Health Development and Disabilities Services), helps veterans with services such as counseling, support groups and referrals for VA status and claims.
“My son was in the Marines for four years, and I lived with him for 15 months when he got back (from Afghanistan),” Ware said.
Pedernales Electric Cooperative’s Board of Directors has selected Julie Parsley to lead the nation’s largest and fastest-growing distribution electric cooperative. Parsley is a former partner of Parsley Coffin Renner, a law firm specializing in utility regulations.
“We’re proud to share that Julie Parsley will be joining the PEC family,” Board President Emily Pataki said.
Celebrating its 27th year, the Texas Big Game Awards (TBGA), a partnership of Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the Texas Wildlife Association, continues to recognize the contributions landowners, land managers and responsible hunters make to managing and conserving wildlife and habitat on Texas’ private and public lands.

Johnson City Volunteer Fire Department Chief Roy Burdett reported that brush being burned Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017, at the Low Ranch off Stubbs Road was put out but additional burn piles were ignited on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017.
“Thursday at noon they were still lighting piles and weren’t watching the weather forecast,” Chief Burdett said.

Commissioners met on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017 for their regular court session. They approved the price and specifications for a John Deere Skid Steer to be paid for out of tax note funds. They also clarified the road classification of River Run in the city of Blanco.

Commissioners approved the purchase of a John Deere Skid Steer for the county.
The board of directors of the Blanco-Pedernales Groundwater Conservation District met Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017, at the district office, located at 601 West Main, Johnson City.
Chair Jimmy Klepac called the meeting to order.
The board approved the minutes from the previous board meeting, held Sept. 21, 2017, which included a public hearing that lasted nearly two hours on proposed district rule changes.

On Sunday, Oct. 22, 2017, a 2014 Nissan Murano was traveling northbound on US 281 near mile post 490 just south of RR 32.
A 2013 Chevy Silverado was stopped in a driveway on the eastside on the roadway.
For some unknown reason, the Nissan drove off the roadway and hit a culvert causing it to become airborne.
Blanco High School students, many wearing red, release balloons to kick-off Red Ribbon Week, which raises awareness of drug use and the problems related to drugs facing the community. Red Ribbon events and ctivities throughout the week encourage parents, educators, business wners and other community organizations to promote drug-free lifestyles.
