“Be their witness.” Is theme for 2018 Wreaths Across, Saturday, December 15, 2018. Each year, millions of Americans come together to REMEMBER the fallen, HONOR those that serve and their families, and TEACH the next generation about the value of freedom. Wreaths Across America Day takes place in all 50 states and includes the Blanco Historic Cemetery. The inspiration for this year’s theme stems from the 2009 drama “Taking Chance,” which was based on the experiences of U.S.
Tractor Supply Company has begun construction on a retail store in Blanco. Construction on the store, located at 1200 U.S. Hwy. 281, began last month with a goal of opening late fall. Tractor Supply will serve as a one-stop shop for the Blanco community’s farmers, livestock and pet owners, ranchers, part-time and hobby farmers, gardeners, homeowners, tradesmen and others. “We’re not just building a store, we’re building a team that understands the needs of the Blanco community,” ...

Friends and family gathered for an early birthday celebration of Wade Smith, San Antonio, who will turn 89-years-old next month. The event took place at the Blanco Bowling Alley early because his cousin-in-law Angie Smith is moving from Blanco to Parker, Texas. Three of the four living Smith siblings gathered. Hill Country Astronomers (HCA) will meet at 6:30 p.m., Monday, June 4, in the HEB activity room at Hill Country University Center in Fredericksburg. Club member Mark Ward will present a summer preview of the outer planets – Jupiter, Saturn, and Mars – all of which have favorable oppositions this year. He will talk about when they are their best, and what one might expect to see.
Bach at Luckenbach June 14
Fredericksburg Community Orchestra will present “Bach at Luckenbach” at an evening of classical and fiddle music, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 14, at historic Luckenbach. Music begins at 5:30 p.m. with Theresa Britt’s Suzuki string students performing solos and ensembles. At 6:30, the Community Orchestra will present highlights from this season’s concert programs, including selections from Bach. As part of National Safe Boating Week May 19-25, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department boater education and law enforcement are reminding Texans to follow the law and taking basic safety precautions. In 2017, 45 boating fatalities occurred on Texas waters, an increase of more than 28 percent from 2016. On top of that, marine enforcement officers logged 172 boating accidents and 83 boating-related injuries.

Erika H. Fickle presents a $500 check to American Legion Post 352 Commander Joe Garcia on May 24, 2018, to fund the 2018 American Legion Robert E. Fickle Scholarship. The scholarship honors Robert E. Fickle, a former member of American Legion Post 352 who served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Bob Fickle later served many years as a policeman before becoming a farmer and vineyard owner in Blanco County.
