Wylie Hal Evans, age 70, of Brady, Texas passed away Friday, March 20, 2020, in San Angelo, Texas. Hal was born February 12, 1950 in Brady, Texas to Wilford Gail “Cotton” Evans and Wandolyn Jo (Taft) Evans. He was a 1968 Mason High School graduate. He served in the U.S. Navy during Viet Nam.
Dora Mae (Gamel)Vierus(Dodie) passed Wednesday 3/11/20. She was born January 3,1938, to Earl and Lelea Gamel in Streeter Texas. She went to school in Mason and participated in sports there. She married Don Vierus September 14,1957. She enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved to hunt and fish and work in her yard. She is survived by husband Don of 62 years of marriage, two boys Don Martin Vierus Jr.
Dale Wesley Clauson, 71, of Beaumont, California, passed away on February 8, 2020, after a valiant battle with glioblastoma brain cancer. Dale was born on December 1, 1948, in Bell, California. He grew up in the surrounding areas, graduating from Yucaipa High School in 1967. He graduated from San Diego State University with a BA degree in mathematics and a Masters in systems analysis. He served in the Air Force for 21 years, ultimately retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1992.
Ronald J. “Smokey” Goodman passed away on Thursday, March 5, at the age of 79. ”Smokey” was born in London, Texas on September 27, 1941, to Frank Goodman and Jackie Chandler Goodman. He was raised in Kimble County. “Smokey” attended school in London and Junction, graduating from Junction High School. After high school he served in the army for two years.
Otha LaFay Holloway, 93, passed away Monday, March 9, 2020, at Heart of Texas Healthcare System in Brady after a short illness. Otha was born at home in Fredonia, Dec. 1, 1926, to Othey and Zoie (Garrett) Holloway. He graduated from Pontotoc School and married Norma Gene Flanagin Feb. 26, 1945, in Mason.
Herman Hitzfelder, Jr was born Sunday September 21, 1930, at home on the Hitzfelder Ranch in Spring Branch, Texas, to Herman Hitzfelder, Sr and Wanda Hitzfelder (nee Pfeuffer). He was a descendant of some of the early settlers of Comal County. Herman, also known as Junior, was the youngest of five children. German was his first language and he also spoke Spanish before he even started school.
I was born on March 24, 1940, to Gladys (Matthews) and Walter “Pinkie” Willmann with the help of a mid-wife in a house in Mason, Texas. First through Sixth grades attended Austin Elementary in Odessa, Tx. Seventh through Ninth was at Crockett Junior High and Tenth through Twelfth was as Odessa High.
Cynthia “Cindy” Diane Keith of Santa Anna passed away on Friday, February 28, 2020, in Bangs, Texas at the age of 54 years 10 months and 5 days. Memorial service will be Thursday, March 12, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Mason with graveside service to follow in the Gooch Cemetery in Mason.
Sara (Sorrells) Cunningham, age 66, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2020, in Brownwood, Texas. She was born on June 4, 1953, in Brady, Texas, to Troy and Inez (Probst) Sorrells. Sara was a Christ-follower, loving wife, devoted mother, Nana, and friend to all. She was a medical transcriptionist, serving doctors at Brady Hospital for many years.
Harold Kimsey Shearer, 89, of Corpus Christi died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, February 16. A memorial service for Harold was held Saturday, February 29, at 2 PM at the Seaside Funeral Home in Corpus Christi. A family-led burial is planned for Friday, March 6, 10 AM at the Voca Cemetery.
