This year CTEC is offering twenty-five $1,000 college scholarships, bringing the combined amount of financial help awarded to area students over the program’s 22-year history to $584,000. Completed scholarship applications must be in the Fredericksburg CTEC office by 5 p.m., Friday, February 22. In order to be eligible, applicants must attend a recognized Texas institution of higher education in the fall 2019 semester and be considered a full-time student.
The City of Mason will be closed February 18th, 2019 for Presidents day. Monday’s trash route will be moved to Tuesday 19th, 2019. Also, we had an interesting and informative public workshop on February 4th, at the Eckert Civic Center. The City of Mason will be looking at our ordinances that will impact all citizens in Mason, that is why we need everyone’s input for the future of Mason.
The Mason Tennis Team opened up its season by hosting an eight-team tournament on the new tennis courts and upgraded facility. Every coach and team that participated this weekend complimented Mason High School and the community of Mason for investing in the future of the tennis program and its support of tennis in general.
Classic Movie Night at the Odeon kicks off the early season Wednesday, February 19 at 7:00 PM with Singing in the Rain starring Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds and Donald O’Connor. The movie received the most votes by ballot from the audience attending the December classic movie It’s a Wonderful Life.
The First Baptist Church of Mason is thrilled to offer a weekend of spiritual and marital renewal led by John Taylor, a certified family therapist and Biblical counselor. This Marriage Retreat will take place at the Baptist Church on Friday, February 14th and Saturday, February 15th. Meals and childcare will be provided.

The Hill Country District Junior Livestock Show was held in Kerrville on January 13 to 19th. Mason 4-H entered 31 members with a total of 57 animals. Of those animals, 13 placed in the top ten. At the area contest January 19th, Mason had 6 teams competing. Mason’s team of Jack Gillespie, Wyatt Row, Cy Nobles, and Ryne Todd placed 4th with their automated tractor. The team of Leroy Bobbitt, Laney Lastly, and Cutter Couvillion, placed 3rd with their automated plant picker. The MCF is now accepting applications for our spring grant cycle. In the past 12 years, the MCF has awarded over 135 grants for a total of $364,000. We have provided grants for upgrades in medical services in our community, area fire departments, school programs, city beautification, and many other areas.
