A free health and wellness program offered by Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas, Inc. Methodist Healthcare Ministries and the Texas A&M AgriLife County Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences invite you to take part in U.S. Diabetes Conversation Maps, a free diabetic education program. If you have diabetes, are predisposed to diabetes, take care of someone with diabetes, or are just interested in knowing about diabetes, please join us this summer!
On June 6, 1944, the Allies landed on the coast of France. This is a very historic date in our history. Mason VFW will hold a remembrance of this date on the 6th of June at 3 p.m. Location will be the Post on Post Hill St. Questions about Mason VFW may be directed to Lawrence Spell,post commander, at 325 429 6224.
The past week has been wonderful in regard to rain and happy gardens! Along with the green vegetation that flourishes after a series of rainstorms, there is usually a runoff of the “spare” water. Sometimes, when enough water comes down over a short time, the runoff hits the river and causes the river to rise.
This has been another great week at Art, Texas, USA. The leaves are almost under control at my house. Our kids and grandkids spent Sunday with us. We had to use the wipers on the way to church this morning. Life is good. The Ministerial Alliance will hold a Fifth Sunday Service at First Baptist Church on Sunday, May 29th, at 6 pm.

The Mason Garden Club met Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at the Mason County Library Stribling Room. Attending were 12 members and 3 visitors. Prior to the program was a salad luncheon. The program was “Raising Monarch Butterflies” by Dawn and Jeff Turner of Brownwood. Dawn Turner has raised Monarch butterflies for over 25 years in her kindergarden classrooms.
The parents of the graduating class of 2016 are hosting a celebration at the Peanut Mill directly following graduation on Friday, May 27th. Come join the fun as we honor our 2016 graduates. Mason County Habitat for Humanity has scheduled an informational program for prospective home applicants for its 2017 home build. An overview of the application process, financial requirements, and new home ownership responsibilities will be discussed. The program will be held in the upstairs Community Room at Mason Bank on Wednesday, May 25th, at 6:30 PM. All interested persons are invited to attend.
Are you losing valuable real estate to stream bank erosion? Now you can learn what to do about it. Noted stream restoration specialist, Bruce Cole, will present a Stream Bank Restoration Workshop at the Llano River Field Station at Texas Tech – Junction on Friday, June 3rd. The event is free and open to the public. The workshop will help landowners identify the causes of stream bank erosion and provide suggestions on how to remedy and reduce its impact.
On the 30th of May at 11:00 a.m., the veterans will hold a Memorial Day ceremony at the veterans memorial on the courthouse lawn. Also this week, the veterans and their assistants will be putting flags on the graves of veterans around the county.
