Operation Orphans, Inc. held its fourth hunt of the 2021 hunting season, Saturday, January 8th. Eighteen boys from three child facilities and a foster home participated. To participate in the Operation Orphans, Inc. program a child must be a ward of the State. The children came to Camp Gene Ashby, located in Mason county, on Friday evening.

The 2022 Mason County Livestock Show & Expo (MCLSE) is just a few short weeks away– Jan. 5-7 at the Fort Mason Park. We hope you can join us and help show your support for the youth of Mason County! The stock show will feature cattle, swine, sheep and goats as well as the Food and Nutrition Show, Eldon Kothmann Memorial Ag Mechanics Show, and Fastest Torch Contest. In addition to showing livestock in the outdoor ring, the shows will be livestreamed on Facebook Live.
The Patriot Warriors will hold their twenty-fifth annual Veterans hunt on the seventh and eighth of January 2022. We will host around fifty hunters this year; a few more than last year. The hunt was curtailed last year due to Covid restrictions, but we are building back up to pre-Covid numbers. Heart of Art Winery will again host opening-day activities.
On December 13, the Mason County M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library will be switching e-book providers. Currently, the library uses Overdrive and Libby for its e-books, but next week we will switch to cloudLibrary (Bibliotheca). Patrons can download the app December 13 and use the same login information as Overdrive. Why are we switching e-book providers?
Mark your calendars for the 5th Annual Mason County WinterFisch, which will kick off with the opening day WinterFisch Celebration on Saturday, December 4th. The WinterFisch Celebration launches the three-and-a-half-month-long Mason County WinterFisch Rainbow trout fishing season, which continues through March 13, 2022. The Veteran’s Day event for 2021 will be hosted by the VFW, Post 8554, Thursday, November 11 at 10:00 a.m. in the River of Life Gym. Our Honorable Judge, Jerry Bearden, will be our keynote speaker. Mrs. Deandra Palacio’s 4th grade class will hold a reception for the Veterans in the Junior High Band room at 8:15 a.m.
My name is Treg Hudson. I am announcing my intention to run for re-election as Mason County Justice of the Peace in 2022. My wife Natalie and I have lived in Mason for about 34 years and raised seven children here. We love Mason County! My wife manages Market Square, which we recently purchased from my mother, Wendy Hudson.
River of Life Church is excited to announce that our Fall Festival is back for our 15th year! Join us on Sunday, October 31st from 5:00 – 7:30 p.m. There will be free food, a variety of fun games, a Cake Walk, a Giant Inflatable Slide, a Bouncy Castle, Laser Tag, a Prize Booth, and of course, plenty of candy! Once again, we will have our Photo Booth, where you can get a photo taken of your family and receive a free 5 x 7 picture.
It’s finally here! The Friends of the Library Book and Bake Sale begins tomorrow: Thursday – Saturday at the Community Center at Fort Mason Memorial City Park 1015 San Antonio St, Mason, TX 76856 (by the football stadium). Our hours will be 9:00 – 4:00, daily. If you are donating a baked item, you may do so today through Saturday at the Community Center.
