The Llano Youth Football and Cheer teams headed to Lago Vista this past weekend for their semi-final playoff games as part of the Hill Country Youth Football League.
Both teams qualified for the playoffs by being in the top four teams out of a nine team league that included Lago Vista, Mason, Brady, Blanco, Comfort, San Saba, Kingsland and Goldthwaite.
The 7th grade Daubers came out victorious against Hondo, while both 8th grade teams fell.
The Daubers now conclude their district schedule as they take on the Bandera Bulldogs this Thursday. The 8th graders travel to Bandera with the B team game scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. and the A team game kicking off immediately afterward at approximately 5:45 p.m..
The Llano sub-varsity teams played their third district contest of the season this past Thursday night as they battled the Hondo Owls. The JV traveled to Hondo while the Freshmen played host to the Owls at the friendly confines of Jacket Stadium.
The JV continued with their impressive season as they defeated the Owls 21-6 while the Freshmen fell to the Owls by the exact same score of 21-6.
The ageless one, Ed Thompson of Horseshoe Bay, has recorded his second major bodybuilding title of the year.
The 70-year-old qualified for the 2017 Nationals in his age bracket by winning the John Sherman Muscle Beach Classic in Galveston, October 15. His body resembles a 70-year-old about as much as a 45 RPM record resembles the technical equipment at Pixar Studios.
“I’m extremely healthy,” Thompson told me, “and my& ...
The Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians began the World Series, October 25, in Cleveland. That’s because the American League won the All-Star Game in July.
Is that not the most ridiculous way of determining homefield advantage in the history of sports? Why not these choices: which team has the better record returning by Pullman from a road trip?
BURNET — We have a question for our educated readers/sports fans: When was the last time — in a rivalry game, no less — the visiting crowd had more people in the stands than the home side at a high school game?
I had never seen it in 18-and-a-half years of covering sports here — until October 18. The Llano Jacket students and fans and the Traveling Yell Section out-numbered and out-screamed the Bulldogs in their gym on tha ...

So, Llano fans, who were looking for a bigger commitment to the running game, “Are you?”
You should be. Hondo Owl eyes had the best view.
WIMBERLEY — Eight days, two games. Season on the line. Losing to Burnet, Navarro, and, most recently, the Texans (35-16), was painful but borderline acceptable, and head coach Craig Slaughter
reports the six teams, which have beaten Llano, have a combined record of 34-7.
It sounds unusual, but the Jackets (2-6) can deliver a blow for respectability with victories over Hondo (1-6), October 21 at home, and at Bandera (2-6), O ...
LAMPASAS — The Jackets’ Long Day’s Journey Into Night was — to be accurate — a Long Night’s
Journey Into Morning. With postseason hopes in the air and on the ground, there was success on both ends. Indoors and outdoors. With a ball, without a ball.
The Llano High cross country teams, with five individuals finishing in the Top Ten in the 19-4A Meet, the girls’ and boys’ squads were third out of seven school ...
