James Leonard Thiers was born in Junction, Texas to Thelma Kathryn Walton Thiers and Alfred Matt Thiers on December 8, 1933. He moved to Llano as a small child and attended school here. He was a graduate of Llano High School in 1950. James attended Texas A&M University where he played in the military marching band.
The deadline for submission of photos for the Llano County Historical Museum photography contest, “Images of a River – the Llano River through the Lens,” has been extended to May 14. The museum welcomes amateur photographers, ages 8 to 65-plus, to submit their photos of the Llano River. Winners in four age categories will be announced at the grand opening of the exhibit on Friday, May 20, with winning photos displayed as part of the exhibit. Dear Editor, On the weekend of April 23, someone entered the Llano Special Opportunity Center and removed a 46-inch flat screen LG TV. This was reported to the Llano Police Department on April 25, 2016. We would like to have the TV returned and are asking the citizens of Llano to be aware of this theft of property and that on the back of the TV a permanent marker was used to inscribe the letters, LCSOC, which was printed on the model number strip. The Horseshoe Bay-based nonprofit organization Hill Country Cats has been awarded a $15,000 grant from the Petco Foundation to support its Trap/Neuter/Return (TNR) program for feral cats in Burnet and Llano counties. Since its founding in 2006, Hill Country Cats has spayed or neutered more than 8,000 free-roaming cats in its service area, preventing the births of tens of thousands more unwanted kittens.
The drive to the Precinct 2 annex in Llano County on Friday afternoon was a perfect reminder as to why over 50 leaders and concerned citizens from all around Llano County came together to discuss a new initiative introduced by the Llano County Attorney’s office. Llooking Forward in Llano County is an innovative way to improve on substandard properties in the county, working with property owners on ways to clean up lots and either demolish or replace dilapidated structures.
Linda Ballard, Llano County Justice of the Peace for Precinct 2, expressed her displeasure with recent changes at the county during the public comments portion of the April 25 county commissioners meeting. Ballard stated that out of 173 county employees, only the four justices of the peace did not get a raise.

Early voting for the joint local election has ended and Saturday is election day for the Llano City Council and Llano ISD school board. There are six candidates vying for three alderman spots for the City of Llano. Candidates are incumbents John Ferguson and Gail Lang, and challengers Mike Virdell, Mike Hazel, Sammy Leverett and Bryan Miiller.

By Bill Mosley “Entrepreneur” Paul La Fluer wants to bring in kayak and canoe rental business to Badu Park. La Fluer has a successful business of this type in Kerrville. Eugene Long, director of public works for the City of Llano, presented the recommendation of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board to the meeting of the city council Monday night. Alderman Glenn Conner raised concerns for enforcement of safety laws.
