Jenifer Neatherlin was introduced as the new Llano High School principal at Monday’s school board meeting. Neatherlin, the first-ever female principal at LHS, begins her new duties July 1. She succeeds David Wuest, principal since 2010. Wuest is retiring. Neatherlin comes to Llano after two years as principal of Abell Junior High School in Midland.
Ronnie Rudd, right, has been named “Jacket for Life,” one of the most prestigious awards presented by the Llano Independent School District. Rudd recently retired from his post as school board president.
A Llano High School teacher was arrested Friday after allegations surfaced that she had an improper relationship with a student. Clarissa Sue McDaniel, 28, of Llano, was arrested and charged with two counts of an improper relationship between an educator and a student. LHS administration notified the Llano Police Department of the allegations about 10 a.m.
The Llano City Council discussed the mowing of nuisance property at great length during Monday’s regularly scheduled meeting. Mayor Mike Reagor said the city didn’t have a large number of complaints at this point, but needed to work on a plan as the weather warms. “Right now we’re not overburdened,” he said.
Early voting for the joint local election has ended and Saturday is election day for the Llano City Council and Llano ISD school board. There are six candidates vying for three alderman spots for the City of Llano. Candidates are incumbents John Ferguson and Gail Lang, and challengers Mike Virdell, Mike Hazel, Sammy Leverett and Bryan Miiller.
The clouds rolled in on Monday morning bringing rain to Llano, and much cooler temperatures, a perfect setting for the junior high golf tournament at the Llano River Golf Club. Eight schools from Central Texas - host Llano, Burnet, Brownwood, Lago Vista, Lampasas, Liberty Hill, Brady and Salado - took to the greens.
It was another small slate of games to report once again as rain has caused many of the league’s games to be postponed or canceled over the last few weeks. However, we do need to remind all coaches to fill out their game summary sheets and leave them in the concession stand or drop them off to me at Arrowhead Bank so that we can get a write-up for the newspaper about the kids! There is lots happening in Llano this week with our members and the City of Llano. Thursday night, the Llano Tea Party will host a candidate forum and dinner at the American Legion Hall #370. Also on Thursday, the Llano County Historical Museum will host a steak dinner fundraiser at 6 p.m.
Betty Jane Scherer Fest of Sunrise Beach Village passed away on May 2, 2016 at the age of 93. She was born to Revillo Macy Scherer and Florence Elizabeth Whall on June 24, 1922 in San Antonio, Texas. Betty married Frederick Francis Fest on November 9, 1940 in San Antonio, Texas.
Linda Carol (Reed) Trotter passed away Monday, May 2, 2016 in Llano, Texas at the age of 70. She was born September 14, 1945 in Llano, Texas to Wilma Joyce (Henry) and Townsend Elmo Reed. She married Joe Trotter December 26, 1980 in Parker County, Texas. Linda lived in Llano most of her life and graduated from Llano High School in 1964.
