Cassie VFD Fire Chief, Derick Curtis, came to the meeting of the Llano Commissioners Court last Monday to present awards to Dispatchers Veronica White and Jamie Christopher for their role in a successful rescue of a person in distress on Lake Buchanan. Chief Curtis also recognized Llano County’s then Corporal Tim McLean for his role in the rescue.

Former Llano Police Officer, Steve Andrew Sifford, was arrested in East Texas on charges originating in Llano. At this time, the following information is all that has been revealed to The Llano News. Sifford’s wife called the police about 5:30 on Friday morning, July 26. From that call, the Llano City Police charged him with domestic violence and unlawful restraint.
The City Council discussed the proposed budget and tax rate for 2019-2020 at their regular meeting on September 9. The proposed tax rate discussed is $.68737/$100. That is the same as the last budget. The public hearing notification for the proposed budget was published in the August 7 and 14 issues of The Llano News.
I got a call around 3:30 that morning; a driver in Big Spring had not shown up for work. At that time we were living in Midland and I was over distribution at Gandy’s Dairy. Big Spring was not my territory, but the other supervisor was already busy so I got the call.
Llano Recycling Opportunities, located at 1209 N. Bessemer Ave., celebrates 53 years in operation. The recycling center has had a positive impact on the Llano community since opening on September 7, 1966. Kim Webb started the meeting off with a poem about the Jail, written by P.J. Meltabarger. She then brought the meeting to order, covered the minutes of the previous meeting, and reviewed the Red Top financial statements.

Llano County has received its new voting system, the Hart Verity Duo, just in time for implementation during the 2019 November 5 Constitutional Amendment Election.
The equipment is manufactured in Pflugerville, Texas and sold nationwide. This is a hybrid system that combines an electronic ballot marking device with a voter verifiable paper trail (VVPT).
