A county-wide burn ban has been put in place for Blanco County. The county commissioners enacted the ban at Tuesday’s meeting. The ban is set to last through Sept. 8, unless extended or rescinded before that time. Portions of Blanco County are listed as abnormally dry, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.
Active COVID-19 cases rose by 13 in Blanco County over the past week, according to the county’s department of emergency management. Active cases number 64 in Blanco County as of Monday, up from 51 a week ago. Active cases have increased by 31 in the past two weeks. There are 51 cases under investigation, down nine from a week ago.

Pablo Crawford, 2019 graduate of LBJ High School, graduated from The United States Army Basic Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri on June 25th. His parents watched a livestream of the ceremony from their home in Johnson City, but were prohibited from attending due to COVID-19 - related restrictions. Pablo served as Guidon Bearer of his unit for outstanding performance in the 2-mile run completing the test carrying a fifty pound pack with the top time of 12:20.00.
One Johnson City, Texas, resident was named on Oklahoma Baptist University’s academic honor roll for the spring 2020 semester. The Dean’s Honor Roll included Laina Poe, a nursing major. The President’s Honor Roll recognizes students who achieved a semester grade point average of 3.7 or higher on a 4.0 scale. The Dean’s Honor Roll acknowledges those who achieved a grade point average from 3.4 to 3.69.
Confirmed COVID-19 cases in Blanco County continue to increase, as do cases across the state of Texas. Numbers released Tuesday morning by the Blanco County Department of Emergency Management showed the county with 51 active COVID-19 cases, an increase of 18 since the morning of June 30. There are 60 cases under investigation, up one case in the same time frame.
Drought conditions in the western Plains and early drying across the state have led to an increase in wildfire activity and an early start to the summer wildfire season.
