The 87th session of the Texas Legislature opened Tuesday with COVID-19 encompassing every aspect of what the lawmakers do, according to new House Speaker Dade Phelan.
“COVID, obviously, it will be a blanket over the entire session,” Phelan told his hometown TV station, KFDM Channel 6, in Beaumont. “We will deal with it in every aspect of policy.
COVID-19 vaccinations have been administered to some Blanco County first responders and other frontline medical workers, and vaccinations for residents and staff members at one of the county’s two assisted living centers are set to begin this week.

Micaela McDonald has officially begun her work as the Library Director of the Johnson City Library. She replaces Maggie Goodman who retired in December. McDonald was promoted from the position of library assistant that is now occupied by Miranda Vega.
McDonald has been employed at the library since 2019 as an assistant librarian.
As Blanco County officials are laying the groundwork for the arrival of one of the approved COVID-19 vaccines, countywide case statistics show that the virus is not letting up.
As of Jan. 3, the county has 313 total confirmed COVID-19 cases, including five deaths, according to Blanco County Emergency Management. Seventy-four positive tests, accounting for nearly 24 percent of the total number of confirmed cases, have occurred just in the past two weeks.

The 82nd Blanco County 4-H and FFA Youth Show begins Wednesday, January 13th at the Blanco County Show Barn in Johnson City. This year there are more than 390 entries. These leaders of tomorrow put in many hours, and oftentimes, a lot of their hard-earned money working towards a successful project and show. They invite you to attend the three-day show, and also show your support at the sale on Saturday the 16th.

JCVFD Vice President Kemp Elliott called the regular business meeting of JCVFD to order at 6:03 p.m. on December 30 and a quorum was established. Those present included President Ray Bible via teleconference, and Whitney Liesmann, Sam Richardson, Orlando Ibanez, Chris Welch, Kemp Elliott, Jed Felps, Aaron Luedtke, and Penny Whisenant attending in person.
Although it was their Winter Break, students with the First United Methodist Church youth group spent the day clearing debris for local residents, Bill and Janey Wiemers of Stonewall. Students are hard at work earning money towards their June 2021 youth group mission trip to Alaska.

Texans urged to roll up their sleeves
Gov. Greg Abbott and other Texas leaders are rolling up their sleeves to get the COVID-19 vaccine and to encourage the public to follow suit.
“I will never ask any Texan to do something that I’m not willing to do myself,” Abbott said before getting vaccinated at a televised event in Austin.
The next round of vaccines will go to people 65 and older and to those who are at greatest risk of severe disease and death from COVID-19.
