Blanco County’s unemployment rate fell in July and the county continues to have the lowest unemployment rate in the nine-county Rural Capital Area region, the Texas Workforce Commission announced Friday. The Blanco County unemployment rate fell to 3.7 percent last month, down from 4.1 percent in June. The unemployment rate in the Rural Capital Area region fell to 4.3 percent in July, after climbing to 4.9 percent in June.
The Blanco County Commissioners adopted a fire code at Tuesday morning’s meeting. The fire code goes into effect Oct. 1 and governs unincorporated areas of the county. The code governs businesses, public buildings and multi-family residences, but does not govern individual housing. Blanco County did not previously have a fire code in place.
City Council members held a Special meeting on August 17, 2021 to discuss the proposed City Fiscal Year End (FYE) 2022 Budgets, and other matters. Mayor Rhonda Stell called the meeting to order at 6:02 pm, and opened the Public Hearing. There were no Citizens’ Comments during the Public Hearing. North Blanco County Emergency Services District No. 1 held a Regular meeting on August 16, 2021. President David O’Bannon called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm, and a quorum was established. There were no Citizens Comments. Minutes of previous meeting were approved with motion and second from Commissioner Kirk McElhinney and Vice President Brandt Raeburn.
JCISD Trustees held a Regular meeting in the LBJ Elementary Library on August 9th, 2021, and President Matt McKennis called the meeting to order at 6:03 pm. A quorum was established. The new 2021-2022 certified staff members were introduced by the campus principals and supervisors. Citizen Penny Whisenant spoke to the Trustees regarding her concerns about trash and drainage issues on her property which have resulted from the LBJ High construction. Sunday, Aug. 15, 2021, Blanco County residents sold a vehicle to a man who used a fake name and a fraudulent cashier’s check to make the purchase. It was confirmed Monday morning by the bank that the cashier’s check was fraudulent.  One of the sellers was mindful enough to note the license plate of the vehicle the buyer arrived in, information that was passed to the Blanco County Sheriff’s Office.

The Blanco County Fair & Rodeo Association would like to announce its new parking and main gate locations for the 90th Annual Blanco County Fair & Rodeo. The main vehicle entrance will remain the same, entering off of Highway 281. However, the main pedestrian entrance will be between the arena and the dance floor on the West side of the grounds; with handicap parking available on both sides of the main pedestrian entrance.
It’s been a long time coming, but one of the historic billboard signs welcoming folks to Blanco County is being restored with a modern touch. The group of Blanco County residents who have teamed up to rescue the sign on Ranch Road 165 still need your help to fund the project that is set to cost $16,000.
