On March 20, 2015 at approximately 2:18 pm, Blanco County 911 was transfered a call in reference to a reckless driver traveling south on US Highway 281 towards Johnson City from the Burnet County line.
Deputy Marty Corcoran and Texas DPS Trooper Bryan Lietz responded to the call. Trooper Lietz and Deputy Corcoran observed the vehicle traveling at a very high rate of speed as it passed the Pedernales Electric Cooperative training center.
At its March 17 meeting, the PEC Board approved a resolution to oppose legislative bills, HB 3391 and HB 3451, filed in the Texas House mandating how PEC Board members are elected. The resolution states that the bills constitute unwarranted governmental interference and overreach into a member-owned cooperative corporation. Blanco County can feel pretty good about its current economic standing thanks to March sales and tax revenues reported by Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar. Last month, the county's tax collections were up 6.10 percent. The county earned $29,495.53 compared to $27,797.84 the prior year during the same collection period in 2014.
The numbers are reflective of those at the state level, which garnered $2.46 billion, up 11.7 percent from March of 2014.

Fun and fellowship were a big part of the Texas Men's State Chili Cook-Off sanctioned by the Chili Appreciation Society International (CASI) in Johnson City this past week, but who boasted the winning recipe was the primary aim as the event returned to the Blanco County Fairgrounds.
The big winner was Larry Walton, who earned the 2011 crown at the famed Terlingua International Chili Championship, said he's still using the same recipe that has catapulted him to the top of the CASI competitions.

Blanco County Sheriff's Office reports that between March 17 and March 23, 2015 there were 85 calls for service, 24 traffic stops and seven arrests. Of the arrests, there were three drug related, two "Out of County" warrants including Sexual Exploitation of a Minor and Theft of $500-$1,500. In addition there were two Class C warrants, one Evading Arrest and one Injury to a Child.
