The PAWS Shelter of Central Texas has opened its second campus near the Blanco County line at 2965 FM 165.
The no-kill shelter has operated in Kyle for 33 years and its Building Committee has been raising funds for its second operation for years, according to Executive Director Melody Hilburn. PAWS is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

Judge Donna Klaeger, Sr. VP of Community Resources for Texas Housing Management Foundation shared a presentation with Blanco County Commissioners regarding the new Community Resource Center for Blanco County. Retired County Commissioner James Sultemeir and current board member of Capital Area Housing Finance Corporation (CAHFC) presented a $50,000 check from CAHFC on behalf of Blanco County to be used for the Community Resource Center.
For the 12th year in a row, the Johnson City FFA Wildlife team placed in the top ten at the State Wildlife Career Development Event. The 2019 contest was held at the Welder Wildlife Foundation in Sinton, Texas. Kelan Painter, Brinley Portie, Logan Sadler and Brett Sultemeier with coach and FFA advisor, Steven Meier, placed 7th out of the sixty teams who had qualified from the 12 FFA Areas in Texas.
