The Johnson City City Council held a Regular Meeting on May, 7, 2019. The Johnson City Record Courier interviewed City Secretary Anthony Holland and learned that the Council unanimously passed a Resolution opposing the proposed Permian Highway Pipeline Route. Burnet County Judge James Oakley has appealed the State Commission on Judicial Conduct's decision to sanction him for appearing in campaign material in support of a candidate for a directorship on the Pedernales Electric Cooperative Board Directors in 2018. Oakley said Canon 2B of the Texas Code of Judicial Conduct, the basis of the Commission's April 24, 2019 admonition against him, is too vague to be enforceable and violates a person's constitutional right of free speech.

Prosecutors would have another sentencing option for first time drunk driving offenders under a bill approved by the Senate Criminal Justice Committee Wednesday. The current system, which focuses on punishment over treatment, doesn't serve the cause of public safety well, said the bill's sponsor San Antonio Senator José Menéndez. His bill would allow for deferred adjudication, a type of probation, for a first time DWI offense under some circumstances.
Hill Country Area Crime Stoppers, Inc. and the Blanco County Sheriff’s Office needs information on several cases of criminal mischief, burglary and theft. During the early morning of April 27, 2019, unknown suspects cut locks and caused damage to several gates along Ranch to Market 473 E. A silver-colored vehicle, possibly a pick-up, was used to commit these crimes. Also in the same time frame, Anastazi Towing was broken into and a crossbow was taken.

Johnson City Library was recently awarded two grants, one from the Tocker Foundation and one from the Blanco Non-Profit Coalition (the organization that produces Wild Woman Weekend). These grants will make it possible to move forward with plans for revitalizing the library with new furnishings and handicap accessible front doors. The Tocker Grant, in the amount of $50,000, is awarded by the Tocker Foundation.
