It was a hot weekend for both junior and adult tennis players as they competed in the Dr. Pepper/Tennis Outlet Open last weekend. The tournament drew over 385 entries and hosted players from all over Texas and beyond. Players battled the extreme temperatures and strong competition to try and win championships in their respective division.
The MHS class of 1958 will be celebrating their 60th year (and probably last) reunion on September 22, 2018, at the Peters Prairie Schoolhouse on the west side of the Brady highway (Highway 87), just before the Camp Air intersection. All former members of the class and former teachers are invited.
The Texas Rangers Heritage Center in Fredericksburg honors the Texas Rangers daily with a 12-acre campus located on Hwy 290. On August 4, 2018, they will remember those who have served and honor those still commissioned with a two-part event. Texas Ranger Day & History Symposium will feature historians and educational programs, including Ranger camp set ups and cannon firing.
Old Yeller Day is just around the corner the way time is flying by. The celebration to be held on Saturday, September 29th, will honor the life of the frontier times and the literary heritage of Mason author Fred Gipson. If you have handcrafted arts/crafts to sell, the celebration is a perfect event for you because booth space if free, so you keep all the proceeds!
Coleman, Texas, July 19, 2018 – Jax Tedder, from Mason, Texas, is participating in an extensive, hands-on educational camp on ranching and land stewardship at the Warren Ranch in West Central Texas. Ranch Brigade, now in its sixth year, accepts youth ages 13 to 18 for approximately 25 coveted spots in the program that introduces the young men and women to the broad ranging aspects of operating a modern Texas ranch.

Food insecurity is defined as “the state of being without reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food.” According to Feeding America, children in rural and farm communities are more likely to face food insecurity. To help combat hunger in our community, Fontera Healthcare Network will be holding a food drive at the Mason Clinic through the month of July.
Central Texas Electric Cooperative is helping the Hill Country Community Needs Council with their annual school supply drive by serving as a drop off location for donations. “This program ensures that children in grades K-12 will have what they need when they start school,” a spokesman said “Please help us help children in need in our community.” The drive will run until the end of July and supplies can be dropped off at CTEC.
At their July 23 meeting, the Mason County Commissioners' Court voted unanimously to instate a 90-day burn ban, effective immediately.
