The Llano Special Olympians travelled to Vandegrift High School to participate in the Area Special Olympics Track meet on April 27, 2019. Llano was well represented with 12 athletes from all campuses in the district participating each in one field event and one track event. They trained for seven weeks prior to their competition. More than 700 athletes participated in the Track and Field Competition.
For 27 years the Llano Special Opportunities Center has held a golf contest for persons receiving services through the Hill Country MHDD. This event is to celebrate the Llano Crawfish week. The Llano Crawfish Organization has provided much needed funding and support for the center for 29 years. “We will always remember the Beaumont connection; a group of extra fine individuals who helped start the Llano Crawfish Open in 1989,” said Jerry Land of Llano Special Opportunities. For the past ...
Rockets2019, the event where students from 21 high schools across Texas launch 50 rockets, will be held this week in Stonewall, Texas, on Thursday, May 2, through Saturday, May 4. This is the first time Rockets2019, the culminating event for students in the SystemsGo program, will happen in Stonewall. Launches take place on the Segner Ranch, located at 2187 Double Horn Road, Stonewall, Texas.
Nothing to it. Douglas Hodo did not get a hit off Justin Low. Hodo, of Boerne, is a Texas commit. His teammates, on this historic April 23 night, didn’t get any hits, either, as Low fired his second no-hitter of the year (third, counting a combo with Justin Lange) in the biggest game of his life.
Taylor is next for the Jackets, as bi-district baseball begins May 2 at 7 p.m. on the Ducks’ diamond. Game 2 is the following evening in Llano at 5, with a deciding contest to follow if the series is 1-1. “Taylor’s a baseball town,” said LHS Head Coach, Todd Doucet. “Always play good defense {and} as of late, good baseball.” The Ducks lost six games (combined) to Liberty Hill, Lampasas and Salado in 27-4A, but came on to defeat Eastside Memorial and Burnet four straight to mak ...
KINGSVILLE—Don’t think of her just as a wild card, and don’t think of her as “number nine” in the state. Courtney Reina earned a trip to Mike Myers Stadium, May 11, in the shot put with a throw of 38 feet, 11-and-a-half inches. She was third in the Region IV Meet, April 27, and only two advance to State.
AUSTIN—They are ready to take the trip of their lives. They won’t be going to the Grand Canyon, to the Sistine Chapel, Mount Rushmore or Miami Beach—but they are going to the beaches of Omaha, Utah, Gold, Juno and Sword. The University of Texas Longhorn Alumni Band will be at Normandy in France to take part in the 75th anniversary of D-Day: June 6, 1944, the beginning of the attack by U.S., British and Canadian troops to liberate France and later Europe. Llano High School graduates, K ...
Matt Anastasio, shown here with his family, is the new co-defensive coordinator of the Llano High football team. Anastasio’s 25-year career has included DC jobs at Westlake High and Odessa Permian. He has been Head Coach at Gregory Portland. Anastasio succeeds Clint Easley, who will remain in the Llano ISD.
The School Board opened their meeting on April 22 by recognizing two students. Abby Machuga was awarded a Certificate of Bravery for her heroic acts when her house caught fine the morning of March 12. Superintendent Mac Edwards said, “Abby Machuga is a wonderful young woman that has had a tough freshman year.
The countdown continues. Pun intended. When we last talked, I introduced you to two of Neville Triplett’s physics classes preparing to build a rocket, which will be launched May 2 in Stonewall. The construction phase is underway. “I do believe, with the amount of planning, it will launch successfully,”said Andrew Cantrill, who is head of one of the engine crews.
