After a summer of evening classes, the Kingsland Genealogical Society of the Highland Lakes (KGS) will return to its normal meeting schedule on Tuesday, Sept. 8, at 2 p.m. at the Kingsland Library, 125 W. Polk. The program will be “Getting the Most From the Web Site Family Search.”
Family Search itself is a non-profit and the largest genealogy organization in the world.
On Saturday, September 12, Keep Kingsland Beautiful will clean up the two-mile stretch of FM 1431 between Kingsland Hills Care Center and the Lake LBJ bridge. All interested volunteers are invited to show up and participate. The Texas Judicial Council, created in 1929 as the policy-making body for the state judiciary, studies and reports on the organization and practices of the Judicial Branch of Texas to state government. The appointment was made by the Speaker of the House, Joe Straus.

The Llano County Library System Foundation has established an endowment account with the Highland Lakes Legacy Fund, a family of charitable funds administered by the Austin Community Foundation. Highland Lakes Legacy Fund has become a highly respected foundation since its establishment in 1977.
The LCLSF is dedicated to fruitful grants for the Llano County Library System, which includes the Lakeshore Library, the Kingsland Library and the Llano County Library.

Cherokee Home for Children is having its annual benefit auction on Saturday, September 26, with bidding beginning at 9:00 a.m. Cherokee Home is located 2 miles north of Cherokee Texas on Hwy 16. Donated items for sale include furniture, antiques, collectibles, appliances, automobiles, tools, saddles, and much more. All proceeds of the sale go to the care of the children at Cherokee Home.
By the end of November, 1855, at least two known groups of early Llano County men submitted petitions to the State of Texas calling for the creation of a new county. The State quickly complied, and on February 1, 1856, the counties of Llano and San Saba were created. Certain stipulations were required by the State, so the men immediately began fulfilling the necessary requests.
I am not sure who invented summer vacation, but I think they deserve a Nobel Peace Prize. Every year is worth the intense strain when there is a summer vacation to look forward to.
