Last Monday morning, six Llano Junior High School students with their teacher, Nicholle Ritchie, attended the Commissioners Court. Their reason for being there was to bring attention to a State Centennial marker north of Llano on State Hwy. 16. It has been badly vandalized.

Last week The Llano News received a call about something happening in the hallways at the high school. The conversation piqued our interest, so we made the short drive to the campus to check it out. I was greeted in the office by Anita Hutson, who instructs the Life Skills class at the school, and gave a glimpse of what was happening in the hallway.
The Llano High School girls basketball team beat Cherokee 35-29 Nov. 11 for its first victory of the 2023-24 season. The Lady Jackets showed their might in the first and third quarters where they outscored Cherokee 10-6 and 17-7. “Cherokee is a lot like us,” Llano head coach Jay Parker said.
Familiar names are on the Llano High School 2023-24 boys basketball roster that oozes with talent, motivation and commitment to excellence. They are seniors Derrick Baker, Weston Baker, who is the reigning District 5-3A Most Valuable Player, Owen Brooks, Alex Kachura, Dylan Kennedy, Fitz Kennedy, Reece Martinez, Parker Parrish and Charlie White and junior Keagan Bush.

But thanks to 11-year-old CJ Ares, it may soon have another activity that is not a common topic in the area of cowboys and Friday Night Lights.
We sat down and talked to CJ over the phone on Sunday afternoon before he went to his weekly chess club meeting at First Presbyterian Church.
The Llano High School football team ensured its seniors and returners finished the 2023 season the same way it started -- with a win.

The Llano Volunteer Fire Department was among the agencies that responded to the Mason County Courthouse blaze last week.
