To sit in the courtroom of the Supreme Court of the United States and watch the nine justices in action is one thing. To sit in the courtroom and watch the justices in action when the issue is about freedom of information and the public’s right to know in America is a privilege. It was on April 22 that I witnessed the Supreme Court hear oral arguments in the case of Food Marketing Institute v.
Hill Country Astronomers (HCA) will meet on Monday, May 6, at 6:30 p.m. in the HEB Activity Room at Hill Country University Center in Fredericksburg. Lindsay Fuller, Ph.D., will present “Exploring the Neighborhood of Supermassive Black Holes.” Dr. Fuller uses data from SOFIA (Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy), a 2.5-meter telescope that is mounted on a Boeing 747, to explore the material surrounding the black holes at the center of active galaxies.
The Highland Lakes Democratic Women held their monthly meeting and luncheon on April 25, 2019, at the Meadowlakes Restaurant. Dana Rushing, HLDW Vice President, introduced the featured speakers: Jane Schneider, City Council Member of Bertram; Mary Ann Raesener, Mayor of Meadowlakes; and John Watson, candidate for District 5 Board Member of the Pedernales Electric Cooperative. HLDW has made it a 2019 goal to encourage its members to run for local office.
Matt Anastasio, shown here with his family, is the new co-defensive coordinator of the Llano High football team. Anastasio’s 25-year career has included DC jobs at Westlake High and Odessa Permian. He has been Head Coach at Gregory Portland. Anastasio succeeds Clint Easley, who will remain in the Llano ISD.

Dr. Jim Rigby, Pastor of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Austin, will be speaking at the Horseshoe Bay Democrats’ monthly meeting at Quail Point, 107 Twilight Lane, in Horseshoe Bay on Monday, April 29 at 4:00 p.m. Dr. Rigby will speak on “Spirituality and Activism.” Dr. Rigby is well known for his views on how we are to love one another.
Soil Stewardship Week: April 28 – May 5
What is soil? This question is not as simple as one might think. If you ask a small child, you might hear it is simply the dirt under your shoes. Ask a scientist and you might be enlightened with a brief lesson on the physical and chemical properties of soil.
The Willow City Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department members invite everyone to join them for the annual benefit on Saturday, May 4 at the Willow City Fire Station, located at 2553 Ranch Road 1323, in the northeastern part of Gillespie County.   A welcome ceremony and US flag and Texas flag raising will be held at 3:30 p.m. The Auxiliary’s Country Store offering a variety of home baked goods, hand sewn items and crafts, "Willow City Recipes and Remembrances"

Toni: I am turning 65 in July and am an insulin dependent diabetic. I take two insulins which are rather expensive. I am concerned about the Part D Donut Hole because I’ve seen my husband struggle with his current choice. Last year, my husband Steve changed from his Medicare Supplement Plan with a separate Part D plan to a Medicare Advantage PPO plan.  He was told that his doctors were in the plan and all of my husband’s heart meds were covered.
