The Blanco County Farm Bureau (CFB) family is getting larger. This year, over 50 people joined the local chapter of the non-profit farm and ranch organization to bring Blanco County to a total of 1650 members. "We welcome all of our new members and encourage those who are unfamiliar with Farm Bureau and the work it does to visit our office at 63 Main Street, in Blanco"
Rutherford named Tournament MVP
The Johnson City boys played in Comfort over the Holidays and won the Comfort Tournament. The Eagles defeated Mason 54-45 in Pool Play and were 2-1 in their pool and advanced to the Championship Game based on the tie breaker points. The Eagles were led by Gage Schnitz, Will Rutherford and Wade North with all 3 players scoring 12 points.
A Fredericksburg jury convicted Blanco resident Brandon Harber on Wednesday, Jan. 14, for tampering with physical evidence while disposing Trey Allen Noah's body in November of 2009. Noah, 20, died of a single gunshot wound on Nov. 30, 2009; his body was not discovered until April 18, 2010. The jury sentenced Harber, 24, after a short deliberation, to a 10-year probated sentence.
Johnson City's YCAP announced that they will hold their 5th Annual EPIC New Year's Eve celebration again this year. There will be two separate parties, one for Middle Schoolers and one for High School. The party for Middle School will begin at 6:30 pm and will end at 9:30pm at which time the high school party will begin and last from 9:30 pm until ???
AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Transportation reminds motorists that law enforcement will be out in force on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day in an effort to reduce crashes and discourage drunk driving. "The New Year's Eve holiday has historically been a dangerous time on our roadways," said TxDOT Executive Director LtGen Joe Weber, USMC (Ret).
The Lady Eagles are off to a good start to the season with an 8-8 record going into the holidays. The Lady Eagles are led by the Capra sisters, with Annamarie averaging 9.9 points a game and Audrey averaging 10.2 points per game. Kayli Trahan is contributing 8.8 points per game and 9.6 rebounds per game. The Ladies competed well in the Johnson City Tournament finishing third.
If December's sales tax rebate numbers released by outgoing Texas Comptroller Susan Combs are any indication, there's plenty to celebrate this New Year where federal, state and even the local economy are concerned. Combs said that state sales tax revenue in November was $2.66 billion, up 10.7 percent compared to November 2013. "The growth in sales tax collections was fueled by increased remittances from both business and consumer driven sectors,"
When Holiday lights start to shine, most start to think about Christmas, but for rodeo fans the first two weeks of December only mean one thing, Las Vegas! This year marked the 30th year that Las Vegas hosted the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. Cowboys and cowgirls from all over the US, Canada, Brazil and Australia compete all year in hopes of qualifying in the top 15 in the world to have a chance at 7.6 million dollars.
Blanco County residents have an opportunity to bid farewell to outgoing County Judge Bill Guthrie and Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Terry Carter on Dec. 22 at a reception slated for after the regular commissioners' court meeting. After decades of service, both are retiring. Guthrie has been in public service for decades, first as a justice of the peace and then as county judge.
JCVFD responded to a call on Sunday Dec. 7 around 2:45 pm and were directed to the home of Susan and David Hamm where they found the garage and attached workshop fully involved with fire and heavy smoke. Round Mountain VFD provided automatic aid and Blanco VFD was called for additional water supply support.
