JCVFD President Ray Bible called the September Regular meeting to order on September 8th at 6:03 pm, and there were no public comments. In alignment with the overall mission of local nonprofit, Highland Lakes Creative Arts made a substantial donation to the Marble Falls High School art department to help supplement art resources within the school.
The art supplies were hand-delivered by Lindsey Reitz Smith, who serves as co-chair of Paint the Town with Erin Hinzmann.
Pinot grigio and ale might have been a factor in the homicide of a local Army veteran and former Blanco firefighter last month, according to police in an arrest affidavit that was obtained by the Blanco County News.
James “Jim” Mayer Harris Jr., 63, a Blanco attorney, allegedly shot and killed his 25-year-old stepson, Donald Boumans, after an altercation on Aug.
JCISD Trustees held a Regular Board meeting on Sept. 13, 2021, and President Matt McKennis called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm. A quorum was established, and there were no public comments.

City Council members held a Special meeting on September 14th. Mayor Stell called the Open Session portion of the meeting to order at 6:00 pm, and introduced public commenter Rebecca Weisenbaugh.
Weisenbaugh asked the Council to take immediate action on a complaint filed against the City on Aug. 30 regarding the deteriorating, unsanitary, and hazardous conditions for the residents and property located at 502 North Avenue N.
The Blanco County unemployment rate continues to drop as it once again leads the nine-county Rural Capital Area.
Blanco County’s unemployment rate for August was 3.3 percent, according to figures released Friday by the Texas Workforce Commission. The county’s rate has fallen 0.8 percent in the last two months. The unemployment rate was 4.1 percent in June and 3.7 percent in July.
The nine-county region’s August unemployment rate was 3.9 percent, falling from 4.3 percent in July.
Johnson City Council members held a Regular meeting on September 7, 2021. Mayor Rhonda Stell called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm, and a quorum was established. Pastor Steve Sanchez gave the Invocation, and everyone recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
During Open Session, citizen Penny Whisenant spoke to the Council about proposed changes at Pecan Street and Avenue N.
The Blanco County Commissioners set the tax rate and adopted a budget at their meeting Tuesday morning.
The commissioners unanimously set the tax rate ate $0.3900 per $100 in valuation. Maintenance and operations was set at $0.3425 and debt services was set at $0.0475.
The tax increase for the coming fiscal year is $970,999, an 11.7 percent increase from the previous fiscal year.
It was arguably America’s most tragic war--pitting countrymen against each other--and it all happened just a few generations ago. One Blanco man, who is a National Park Ranger, spends his downtime researching Texas during Civil War so that he can bring history back to life with his books.
“My books are about the soldiers’ memories of battles and camp-life; Each soldier in my books has written a fascinating account of the battles they were in,” said author Joe Owen.
