The Blanco County Commissioners adopted a fire code at Tuesday morning’s meeting. The fire code goes into effect Oct. 1 and governs unincorporated areas of the county. The code governs businesses, public buildings and multi-family residences, but does not govern individual housing. Blanco County did not previously have a fire code in place.
After a challenging year, The Good Samaritan is up and going strong. For those of you who do not know what we do, here is a short explanation. We are a non-profit thrift store and food pantry for Blanco County. We take donations of clothing and household goods for the thrift store which are then sold onsite and used to buy groceries for the food pantry and provide special aid to the community. We are a 100 percent volunteer organization.
Is Blanco County in the middle of a real estate boom? Blanco County’s unemployment rate fell in July and the county continues to have the lowest unemployment rate in the nine-county Rural Capital Area region, the Texas Workforce Commission announced Friday. The Blanco County unemployment rate fell to 3.7 percent last month, down from 4.1 percent in June. The unemployment rate in the Rural Capital Area region fell to 4.3 percent in July, after climbing to 4.9 percent in June.

Water customers in the City of Blanco have endured another water shortage, the second water service disruption in 6 months. The taps went dry for around 1,200 water customers in mid-February during the winter storm. The Blanco Police Department received a recognition from the Texas Police Chiefs Association at the Aug. 10 city council meeting. The Police Chiefs Association Foundation presented Blanco Police Chief Scott Rubin its Best Practices Recognition. This accreditation process found that Blanco Police comply with the state’s rigorous standards for professional excellence.
Blanco ISD superintendent Clay Rosenbaum and head softball coach Michael Seales accept a check from Stormy Pruitt, Hondo National Bank Senior Vice President and Blanco President. The donation will pay for a new scoreboard at the BHS softball field. The new scoreboard will be a tremendous improvement over the current scoreboard, including inning-by-inning scoring.
