Come celebrate social distancing with your friends at the 11th annual Melvin Burns Scholarship Golf Tournament on June 13th and 14th at the Comanche Creek Golf Course. It is a 2-day, 2-man, low ball tournament (Saturday/Sunday). And, a 1-day, 3-man scramble tournament on Saturday. Entry fee for the 2-day is $100 per person.
The Llano Country Opry will be held at the Lantex Theater in downtown Llano, Texas, on Saturday, June 13, at 2:30 PM. Bode Barker will headline the monthly show and admission is $15.00. Tickets are on sale in advance at www.heartoftexascountry.com or by calling (325) 247-5354. Country-Pop may rule the charts, but Bode Barker has remained grounded in his country roots.
The tax revenue that would be generated by changing Mason County from a “dry county” to a “wet county” is substantial. That’s why there is a petition circulating to make Mason County a “wet county” with legalized alcohol sales. In recognition of Memorial Day, the Hill Country Cattlewomen held a contest for $100 beef gift cards to honor those who have served. The HCCW received many great stories of deserving individuals and families who have or are currently serving along with their delicious beef recipes. While all the recipes we received were delicious, the winning one may be remembered fondly, or not so fondly, by many veterans as S.O.S.
Summer is here, whether the calendar agrees or not. We are in a no rain, hot cycle according to the TV weatherman. Outside jobs are scheduled for early morning. Class Meetings at the Art United Methodist Church will resume on June 24. Happy Birthday to Goldie Lease on June 10. Happy Anniversary to E Wayne and Kathy Jordan on June 11 and to Steve and Karen Toone on June 12. Make yours a good week.

Mason County M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library will have our first program in a series of virtual shows for kids this week. Summer Reading at the library will officially begin on July 6, but we will have virtual shows and activity packets available for the month of June. Since we are not able to have a program in the library at this time, we are bringing the programing to you at home!
BROWNWOOD – May 29, 2020 – Howard Payne University invites the public to the groundbreaking for the Newbury Family Welcome Center on June 25 at 1:30 p.m. The event will take place at Old Main Park, located near the intersection of Austin Avenue and Center Avenue on the HPU campus.
1) ROBOCALL CHECK SCAMS: The scammer will call pretending to be the IRS and ask for your personal financial information. They will claim they need this to deposit the stimulus check into your account and will also ask for a fee to deposit said check. In reality, they want your information so that they can pretend to be you, claim the check for themselves.
