Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park has announced that President Johnson’s boyhood home in Johnson City will be closed for public tours for about two weeks, beginning on Wednesday, April 20, and ending approximately Friday, May 6, 2016. The park is closing the home in order to re-roof the historic home—an important preservation project for the park.
April 16 from 10am to 3pm The Hill Country Science Mill, a regional science center in Johnson City, TX, will host a special “Call of the Wild” Nature Day on April 16. The Highland Lakes Chapter of the Texas Master Naturalist will be at the Science Mill from 10am to 3pm with special hands-on science activities for all ages. This Saturday April 16th the Pleasant Valley - Rocky Creek Community Club will be hosting the second annual Archer's Cup archery contest. Archers will begin shooting at 7AM and can arrive anytime before 1PM. Prize money includes $500 for the course champion and $500 for the distance bullseye. Entry fee is $20 and shooters can enter up to 3 times logging their best score.
The Board of Directors of Pedernales Soil and Water Conservation District are proud to continue their long-standing tradition of hosting the Annual Soil Stewardship Breakfast in honor of Soil Stewardship Week (April 24-May 1). This year’s theme, “We All Need Trees,” reminds us that trees and forests are critical to providing clean air and water, healthy soil, abundant wildlife habitat and valuable products we use every day.

Pedernales Electric Cooperative is inviting members to a forum to learn more about this year’s PEC Board of Directors candidates. The forum will be held Thursday, April 21, at 5:30 p.m. at PEC headquarters, 201 S. Ave. F in Johnson City. PEC plans to announce the official slate of candidates running for the Co-op’s Board on April 18.
The Johnson City ISD is asking parents with children preparing for Kindergarten to attend the Kindergarten Round-Up on Wednesday, April 20 from 4:30-6:00 pm at the LBJ Elementary School. The school staff will conduct a brief, informal assessment regarding your child’s current skill level with the following items: letter and sound identification, counting, shapes and colors.
