Micah Walker, County Extension Agent for Mason County has announced the deadline to purchase Sheep and Goat Validation Tags as Friday, August 24 at 5 PM. Each tag is $15.00. Enrollment for the 2018-2019 school year is underway for Kingdom Kids, River of Life’s Mom’s Day Out program. Kingdom Kids mission is to provide a loving, Christ-centered environment where children are nurtured and mother’s needs are met. Daily activities for children ages 3 months to 4 years old include Bible and age appropriate pre-school lessons, music time, crafts, and outside play plus added events throughout the school year. Junior high football players can pick up their equipment on August 15 in the junior high gym from 5-6 p.m. If you can’t make that time then the kids can get theirs on the first day of school. If you have any questions please contact Coach Burns at the high school.
Children need healthy meals to learn. Mason ISD offers healthy meals every school day. Breakfast costs $1.10; lunch costs $2.20 PC -4 and $2.40 for 5-12. Your children may qualify for free meals or for reduced-price meals. Reduced-price is .30 for breakfast and .40 for lunch. If you received a notification letter that a child is directly certified for free or reduced-price meals, do not complete an application.
Five Mason County 4H members took a week of their summer to learn all about the agriculture industry. Youth Agricultural Lifetime Leadership (YALL) gathered nearly 40 students from across the hill country to tour south Texas. Students from Mason were Garrett Bragewitz, Lucas Martin, Steeley Smith, Alex Cope and John Benefield. This year’s tour traveled to the Texas towns of Gonzales, Victoria, Sinton, Corpus Christi, Kingsville, Raymondville, Harlingen, Mercedes, Weslaco and McAllen.
Do your children love to color? Then enter them in the Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library Coloring Contest! Pre-K to First Grade will be judged together, and Second Grade to Fifth Grade will be judged as a separate group. First Place, Second Place, and Third Place ribbons and cash prizes of $25, $15, and $10, respectively, will be awarded.
The Mason High School tennis courts and several residential tennis courts welcomed over 350 entries from all over the state and beyond last weekend. Thursday and Friday saw kids ages 8-18 years of age play tennis all over town. Every player was guaranteed at least two matches and many played more than 3 matches each day.

Boy Scout Troop 281 of Mason attended summer camp at Lost Pines Scout Reservation from July 2nd to July 8th. While at camp, these young men worked on earning merit badges and rank advancement requirements. A total of 7 youth earned 21 merit badges during the week. They were accompanied at camp by their Scoutmaster, Terry Simonton, and Assistant Scoutmasters Stephen Kruso and Sant Rodriguez, who became fully trained leaders by the Boy Scouts of America. Mason Garrett’s National Record is now official and listed on the National Federation of High School’s website. This is an organization that keeps up with all the National Records for each sport through out the entire 50 United States.
