The 2017 Puncher football season got off to its official start on Friday night as Mason welcomed the Goldthwaite Eagles to the Puncherdome. The lingering presence of Hurricane Harvey continued to make itself known, as the Eagles fans called ahead to Mason to make sure they would be able to fuel up for the journey home after the game.
This year, the Comanche Creek 18 Hole Ladies Club Championship will be held on Saturday, September 23rd, at 10:00 am. The tournament will be flighted and all members are encouraged to participate, no matter your skill level. Also, our Cross Country Scramble and Annual Meeting will be held on Thursday, October 12th, at 9:00.
The white team played last Thursday against the Cross Plains Buffalos to open their season. The Punchers jumped out to a 16-0 lead on the back of quarterback Jax Tedder who scored both touchdowns. The Punchers carried that lead into halftime. However, in the second half, Cross Plains took advantage of the mistakes made by the Punchers and took a lead of 20-16.
The JV Purple started the year with a big win over the Goldthwaite Eagles last Thursday in Goldthwaite. With a touchdown run from Tad Kirby and Gage Watson the Punchers were up 14-0 within the first 4 minutes of the game. The Puncher defense had a stellar game with 3 turnovers by Jace Eckert, Jason Karr, and Andrew Padillia. The Punchers' defense shut out the Eagles with a score of 49-0. The JV Purple will play their first home game this Thursday at 6.
Tiani Tovar, daughter of Joe and Dora Tovar of Mason, was selected to participate in the 2017 State FFA Chorus this summer in Corpus Christie. Tiani performed in front of six to eight thousand FFA Members and guest during each of the eight general sessions during the 89th Annual Texas FFA Convention.
The Mason High School varsity cross country teams kicked off their season this past weekend in Mason at our Mason Relays Meet. The four man relay consisted of each member of the team running 1.18 miles and passing on the baton to the next team member. The Punchers and Cowgirls competed against Sterling City, Harper, Grape Creek, Menard, and TLCA.
Twenty school leaders were recently named TEPSANs of the Year by the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association (TEPSA). Members from the 20 Education Regions across the state annually honor a colleague for their outstanding service. Award recipients must be committed to serve as a voice for Texas Students. Honorees were awarded at the TEPSA Awards Reception Wednesday, June 14 at the Austin Renaissance Hotel. The 2017 TEPSAN of the Year for Region 15 is Tammy Frerich Parrish. ...
Can you feel it?!?! The excitement of Puncher football is just around the corner with the Mason Punchers having already started their “Two a Day” workouts and a successful scrimmage versus Sonora. This season looks to be exciting as we prepare for our 102nd year of Mason Puncher football. The coaches, football players, trainers, cheerleaders, Puncher Pete, flag corps, and band have been preparing for the new season.
Mason ISD has unveiled a brand new website! If you haven’t had a chance to check it out you will want to do that. There is a completely new format and design with wonderful Mason County photographs, thanks to Jeff Durst for sharing his expertise. All available information is on our website, but we are constantly updating and changing information. One of the greatest new features of the site is the ability to “Subscribe” to a teacher page.
Hill Country Memorial and orthopedic surgeons are again teaming up to offer free orthopedic and physical therapy evaluations to middle and high school students on Saturdays from Aug. 26 through Nov. 11.
