Patrick (Pat) Loftin was born on March 17, 1946 in San Antonio, TX. He completed his earthly journey on December 10, 2023 after a courageous battle with a rare blood cancer. He is survived by his wife, Marnee, his son, Michael; his daughter and son-in-law, Elyse and Mike Reed; and grandchildren Cole, Grayson and Caleb. He is also survived by his brother George and wife Karen as well as their family. His brothers- and sisters- in-law and their families as well as a number of cousins also survive him.
Pat was predeceased by his parents, Tommy and Imogene Brandenberger Loftin as well as his sister, Tommie Jean Mitchell.
Pat enrolled at UT at Austin as a member of Plan II. Completing his BA at UT, he first pursued an MBA but decided that social justice was his priority. He received a MEd in Special Education and completed all of his work for a PhD in Rehabilitation. Throughout his life, his vocation and avocation were bringing justice to people marginalized by society. Pat had a lasting impact on programs for adults with special needs in Texas.
A life-long Methodist, Pat joined Bethany Methodist after their move to Cedar Park. Pat remained active in his Sunday School class, Grow Group, Fresh Food for All food distribution and ministry for individuals with special needs as long as his health allowed. He was also an Associate Member at Hilda Methodist in Mason County. There he worshipped in the same small church built by his Brandenberger ancestor in the 1880s.
Pat loved his life and took great pride in the family he adored. He was thrilled to provide a multitude of experiences to his family ranging from outdoor activities to trips to Europe. Many happy hours were spent with them at the family ranch in Mason County enjoying feeding the cows, exploring the trails or hunting. Pat was proud of having recently completed work on the historical marker for Hilda Community. The family ranch proudly bore the designation of a Family Land Heritage Ranch until its sale in August 2023.
Pat never saw an isolated mountain pass that he didn’t want to explore, a book he didn’t want to page through, or a St Patrick’s Day parade he didn’t want to join. He loved deeply and well. His love for his wife, Marnee, was immense. Their example of love, devotion and mutual respect demonstrated during 55 years of marriage served as an inspiration to many. He will be eternally missed by his family and friends. Pat will remain our North Star helping guide us with difficult decisions.
A memorial service will be held on January 5 at 11 am at Bethany Methodist Church on Anderson Mill Road in Austin, TX. A memorial will also be held on January 10, 2023 at Hilda Methodist in Mason County. Memorial donations may be made in his name to Samaritan Health Clinic in Leander, TX or Second Chance in Mason TX.
