James Edmonson Awarded Eagle Scout Rank

James R. Edmonson, a member of the Boy Scout Troop #301 in Llano, has earned the honor of Eagle Scout, the highest rank that the Boy Scouts offer. Nation wide, only 3-4% of Boy Scout members ever attain this prestigious honor.

James received the Eagle award in a Court of Honor ceremony on January 5, 2019, at the Lutie Watkins First United Methodist Church. Family and Friends gathered to honor James and celebrate this momentous accomplishment.

James, age 15, is the son of Scott and Maela Edmonson. He is a Sophomore at Mason High School where he is active in yearbook, UIL Speech and Debate and volunteers to assist with technology projects for the district. James is also a member of the Lutie Watkins First United Methodist Church.

James achieved the 21 merit badges required to receive the Eagle Scout award plus an additional 17 merit badges. For his Eagle project, he built a play area at Llano Elementary that is designated for students with special needs. The play area creates a multisensory environment that promotes not only physical, cognitive and social development in children, but also the appreciation of both similarities and differences among them.

James was proud to complete his Eagle project with the help of his fellow scouts and adult leaders. Todd Keele served as James project mentor and Liz Belinoski helped with he organization and finances for the project.

James has also been elected to the Order of the Arrow, the “honor society” of Scouting and has served his troop in several leadership roles.
