Work Zone Awareness Week: Eyes Open to Fatalities
161 construction barrels were placed outside the Austin District headquarters, representing those who lost their lives in construction zones across the state last year.
In spite of a decrease in work zone crashes in Texas last year, 161 people still lost their lives and another 684 were seriously injured. The vast majority of those killed (84 percent) were motorists and/or their passengers. As National Work Zone Awareness Week gets underway, beginning Monday, April 8, the Texas Department of Transportation highlights its “Be Safe.
