For those of us who thought of Ben Walling as a quarterback, running back or linebacker, we were surprised to see he would wind up at Cisco College as a Team Roper, but that’s where he’s heading. “I started roping at age four,” he told me in a lengthy email, “at Tyler Magnus’s ranch in Valley Spring.” He was competing at five. “I first started swinging the rope backwards because I was left handed.” He got it right and became a righty.
