Ceremony gives respectful end for worn flags

One by one, American flags were carefully lowered into the flaming pit to be properly disposed on Thursday morning. The tattered, torn and worn flags were given their respectful end during a brief retirement ceremony held on Flag Day behind Highland Lakes United Methodist Church in Buchanan Dam. Jenny Tucker, the church’s pastor, said it was the second consecutive year that the church has hosted the event.
