You see the Salado girls all in a bunch—smiling but not overly exuberant—and you see three Llano players marching in single file to the bench—separated by 10 feet or so—down in hope and heart but showing a true competitor’s defiance that the first district game, in which you never trailed for close to 30 minutes, had, almost unbelievably, slipped out of your grasp. “We played well,” said head coach Jerry McSherry, who showed remarkable calm and dignity following a 40-38 loss.
