Digitization project puts newspaper archives online
This front page was published 100 years ago today, on Aug. 10, 1916. It is one of the 420 issues of The Llano News that is currently available online at the Portal to Texas History. Front page news from a century ago includes the first bale of cotton being sold that year in Llano for 15.25 cents per pound, many Llanoites traveling to San Saba for that county’s fair and much more.

Things have gotten easier for those wishing to research historical events in Llano County. The Tocker Foundation awarded the Llano Library a $22,000 grant for the digitization of newspaper archives, and that process is largely complete. They will be available at no cost online at The Portal to Texas History, located at texashistory.unt.edu.
