Blanco County’s Household Waste Collection Event

Blanco County will be holding its countywide household waste collection event on Saturday, Oct. 31.

Bring your recyclables to the county drop off location, Blanco County/Waste Connections Transfer Station, at 377 Transfer Road in Johnson City. The station will be open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Household items accepted include lead-acid batteries, rechargeable batteries, construction debris, carpet, appliances (including refrigerators, stoves, microwaves, dishwashers, freezers, ns water heaters) scrap steel, scrap metal, televisions, mattresses, and furniture.

Electronics such as phones and computer components may also be brought to the station.

Tires can be disposed of, however, there will be a fee which varies with the size of the tire. It will cost $2 each to dispose of a tube. Passenger and light truck tires up to 20 inches and motorcycle/ATV tires will cost $5 per tire. 22 inch passenger and light truck tires will total $6 per tire for disposal. The cost to dispose of a passenger and light truck tires with rims will total $25 per tire. Semi-truck tires will total $12 per tire without rims and $45 per tire with rims. A split rim tire will also cost $45 per tire for disposal. Tractor tires will be priced according to the last two digits for the size of the tire.

Paints, household garbage, medical and pharmaceutical items,and animals/carcasses will not be accepted.

Other items that are potentially dangerous including items like dioxins, explosives, compressed gas cylinders, containers that are larger than five gallon, landscape waste, flashlight batteries, used motor oil, and fluorescent light bulbs will also not be accepted at the station.

Brush and leaves will also not be accepted.

The event is sponsored by Blanco County, Blanco Pedernales Underground Water Conservation District, and Keep Blanco Beautiful.

The Groundwater district is “responsible for the regulation and management of water wells in Blanco County, and the conservation, recharge, and protection of the loca aquifers and groundwater resources.”

The Capital Area Council of Governments (CAPCOG) helped finance with funds from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. RBM also is a supporter of Blanco County recycling.

The county reserves the right to refuse any load that may be harmful or unsafe to persons or property, and is not responsible for any accidents, or damage, to personal property while participating in the Blanco Countywide Household Waste Collection event.
