Continued rise in Blanco County COVID-19 cases

COVID-19 cases in Blanco County continue to increase, mirroring trends from across the state of Texas.

Numbers released Tuesday by the Blanco County Department of Emergency Management showed the county with 32 active cases of COVID-19 and 59 cases under investigation, along with eight recoveries. The number of active cases and cases under investigation are a stark increase since the month of June began.

In Blanco County, there were just three active cases and 15 under investigation as of 4 p.m. on May 31. At that point 10 cases had been confirmed, with six recoveries and one death.

There were six active cases and 25 under investigation by June 17. That number jumped to 11 active cases and 30 under investigation by June 19, and kept creeping up. There were 13 active cases and 34 under investigation by June 20; 16 active and 33 under investigation by June 21; 19 active and 36 under investigation by June 22; 19 active and 44 under investigation by June 24; 21 active and 47 under investigation by June 26; 23 active and 50 under investigation by June 27; 25 active and 54 under investigation by June 28; and 28 active cases and 56 under investigation by June 29.

Blanco County had its first confirmed COVID-19 case announced March 23, while the second confirmed case wasn’t announced until April 2. The numbers in the county remained low through the end of May, when there were only 10 confirmed cases – with six recoveries and one death – as of May 31.

Only one person to date in Blanco County has died from COVID-19. It was announced May 30 that a man in his 60s, who lived in the Johnson City zip code, died.

New cases of COVID-19 statewide skyrocketed in the middle of June. There were just under 2,000 new cases reported statewide June 14, and that number jumped to almost 4,000 new cases on June 21. There were more than 5,000 new cases reported statewide six consecutive days, ending June 29, when new cases fell to more than 4,000.
