The Spirit of Sacrifice, a name which the Alamo Cenotaph is known by commemorates the battle fought there. Bearing the names of the men who fought and died for the freedom of Texas, the monument was erected during the Texas Centennial in 1938. The inscription on the marker tells of this great sacrifice.
